(མར་ཀུ 8:31-33)

དེ་ནས་ཁོང་གིས་ཉེ་གནས་ཚོར་མིའི་རིགས་ཀྱི་བུ་ནི་ངེས་པར་དུ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མང་པོ་མྱོང་ཞིང༌། ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པའི་མི་རིགས་ཀྱི་རྒན་པོ་དང་བླ་ཆེན་རྣམས། ཆོས་ཁྲིམས་ལ་མཁས་པའི་མིས་ཁོ་རང་དོར་ནས་གསོད་པར་འགྱུར་ལ། ཡང་ཉིན་གསུམ་གྱི་རྗེས་འཆི་བ་ནས་སླར་གསོན་པར་ལང་ངོ་ཞེས་གསུངས། ཁོང་གིས་བཀའ་དེ་གསལ་པོར་གསུངས་ཤིང༌། པེ་ཏྲོས་ཁོང་ཟུར་དུ་ཁྲིད་ནས་གཤེ་གཤེ་བཏང༌། འོན་ཀྱང་ཡེ་ཤུས་ཞལ་ཕྱིར་སྐོར་ཏེ་ཉེ་གནས་ཚོར་གཟིགས་ནས་པེ་ཏྲོ་ལ་བཀའ་བཀྱོན་གནང་སྟེ་“བདུད་སཱ་ཏན་ཁྱོད། ངའི་རྒྱབ་ཏུ་སོང་ཞིག ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བསམ་པ་དཀོན་མཆོག་བཞིན་མ་ཡིན་པར་མི་བཞིན་ཡིན་ནོ་”ཞེས་གསུངས།

 

 

(Mark 8:31-33)

And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

 

 

Peter says to Jesus, ‘I will die with you.’

When Jesus foretold his suffering and execution, Peter argued with him, saying, ‘You are wrong; that cannot happen to God’s Messiah.’ But Jesus replied, ‘Yes; it must happen. Do not tempt me, Peter. You speak like the chief demon in tempting me to seek earthly glory and avoid suffering’

What to say? Peter maybe thought that those close to Jesus like himself would share some of that glory.

But it was not God’s purpose for his Messiah to appear as a victorious king riding a golden horse. God’s way for Jesus was for him to be crucified and take the punishment for our sin on himself so that we might be set free.

Then Jesus said to everyone around (Mark 8:34-38), ‘If you want to follow me, then give up all thoughts of great glory in this world. Do not be ashamed of me, but imitate me and teach the dharma of my gospel. Then, when I come back in glory, I will show you favour.’

And later (Mark 14:26-31), that last evening when Jesus walked out with his disciples to be arrested, Peter declared emphatically that he would die with him if necessary. But Jesus knew better, saying, ‘No, you will not; you Peter will deny even knowing me three times.’ (Read about it next time)

དེ་ནས་ཉེ་གནས་པེ་ཏྲོ་ཞོལ་གྱི་སྒོ་ར་ལ་བསྡད་ཡོད་པའི་སྐབས་སུ་བླ་ཆེན་གཙོ་བོའི་གཡོག་མོ་ཞིག་ཡོང་སྟེ། ཁོ་མོས་པེ་ཏྲོ་མེར་བསྲོ་བཞིན་པ་མཐོང་ཞིང་ཁོ་ལ་ཞིབ་པར་བལྟས་ནས་“ཁྱོད་ཀྱང་ན་ཙ་རེལ་གྱི་མི་ཡེ་ཤུ་དང་མཉམ་དུ་ཡོད་པ་གཅིག་རེད་”

ཅེས་སྨྲས་པས། པེ་ཏྲོས་ཁས་མ་བླངས་པར་“ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གང་བཤད་པ་ངས་མི་ཤེས་ལ་ཧ་ཡང་མི་གོ་”

ཞེས་བཤད་དེ་སྒོའི་ཕྱི་རོལ་དུ་སོང་བ་དང་བྱ་ཕོས་སྐད་གྲགས་སོ། ཡང་གཡོག་མོ་དེས་པེ་ཏྲོ་མཐོང་ནས་སླར་ཡང་དེ་རུ་ཡོད་པའི་མི་རྣམས་ལ་

“མི་འདི་དེ་ཚོའི་ནང་ནས་གཅིག་རེད་”

ཅེས་བཤད། འོན་ཀྱང་ཁོང་གིས་ཡང་བསྐྱར་ཁས་མ་བླངས། དེ་ནས་ཅུང་མ་འགོར་བར་དེར་ཡོད་པའི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཀྱང་པེ་ཏྲོ་ལ་

“ཁྱོད་ནི་ག་ལིལ་ཡུལ་གྱི་མི་ཞིག་ཡིན་པས་དངོས་གནས་དེ་ཚོའི་ནང་ནས་གཅིག་རེད་”

ཅེས་སྨྲས། པེ་ཏྲོས་སྡིགས་དམོད་བྱེད་བཞིན་མནའ་བསྐྱལ་ཏེ་

“ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ཟེར་བའི་མི་དེ་ངས་ངོ་མི་ཤེས་”

ཞེས་སྨྲས། དེ་མ་ཐག་ཏུ་བྱ་ཕོས་སྐད་ཐེངས་གཉིས་པ་གྲགས་པས། པེ་ཏྲོས་དེ་སྔ་ཡེ་ཤུས་ཁོ་རང་ལ། བྱ་ཕོས་སྐད་ཐེངས་གཉིས་མ་གྲགས་པའི་སྔོན་དུ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ང་རང་སུ་ཡིན་མི་ཤེས་ཞེས་ཐེངས་གསུམ་སྨྲ་བར་ངེས་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ་དེ་དྲན་ནས་སེམས་ཤིན་ཏུ་སྐྱོ་སྟེ་ངུས་སོ།།

 

 

(Mark 14:66-72)

And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway and the rooster crowed. And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

 

 

Peter denies Jesus three times.

Previous post we read how Jesus said that loyal Peter would deny him three times that same night before dawn (Mark 14:30).

Then, after that, they went out, and while Jesus prayed in the garden, Peter and James and John instead of praying for courage fell asleep (vv.32-42).

The arrest came and all the disciples were frightened and took cover in the darkness. Next, as the arrest party went to the high priest’s house, Peter followed at a safe distance (vv.53,54). And that is where we find him in today’s passage sitting downstairs with the guards thinking that no one would know that he was a disciple of Jesus.

He could hear, in the house above, false accusations being made and no answer being given (vv.53-61). That is, until Jesus was asked if he were the Christ and he answered “Yes” (v.62). After that Peter could see some onlookers and the guards giving him physical abuse; but he takes no action.

Next a passing servant maid looks intently at Peter. She says, “You too are one of the Nazarene’s party!”

“No!”, replies Peter, “I do not know what your talk means.” But he goes to the outer door for safety. There she sees him again, and starts to tell the bystanders, “He is one of them!“

“I am not!”, said Peter.

Soon after they agree with her. “Yes, you must be one of them because of your Galilean talk.”

But Peter calls down curses and swears, “I know nothing about the man you name!”

At Peter’s third denial Jesus turned and looked at him (Luke 22:61,62). How it hurt his loving Lord! And how ashamed Peter was!
