Our desire for God will open our hearts for sowing the words of God in us and among us and that help to ensure we continue to grow in fellowship with God
གསུང་མགུར 42:1
ཤ་མོ་སྐོམ་ནས་གྲོག་ཆུ་འཚོལ་བ་ལྟར། ང་ཡང་སྐོམ་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱེད་འཚོལ་ལོ།
Psalm 42:1
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
The psalmist expressed his desire to be in fellowship with God.
We all do desire to fellowship with God but very often circumstances and environment are not encouraging and sometime we felt pressured and enforced to go opposite direction. What shall we do?
The context of Psalm 42 speaks of a person being restricted in approaching God due to circumstances
གསུང་མགུར 42:2-4
2ང་གསོན་པོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་ཕྱིར་དུ་སྐོམ་ནས་ཡོད།
ང་ནི་ཁྱེད་དྲུང་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པར་ནམ་སླེབས་ཐུབ།
3ང་ཡི་མིག་ཆུ་ཉིན་མཚན་གཉིས་ཀ་ལ། ང་ཡི་ཁ་ཟས་གཅིག་པུར་འགྱུར་ནས་ཡོད།
དེ་ཚོས་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གང་དུ་ཡོད། དགྲ་བོས་ང་ལ་རྒྱུན་དུ་དེ་ལྟར་བརྗོད།
4ང་ནི་མི་ཚོགས་མཉམ་དུ་འགྲོ་བའི་སྐབས། དགའ་སྤྲོར་བསྟོད་པའི་དབྱངས་ཀྱི་འགོ་བྱེད་ནས།
དེ་ཚོའི་སྣེ་འཁྲིད་མཆོད་ཁང་ནང་དུ་འགྲོ། དེ་རྣམས་དྲན་དུས་ང་ཡི་སེམས་ནི་ཆགས་བཞིན་འདུག།
Psalm 42:2-4
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
Apparently the psalmist is in pain and suffering, being sorrowful and in tears.
His pain and sorrow intensified by the fact he wish he could be in the Temple to worship God together with the congregations but could not.
Whatever the reason causing such restriction, his desire to fellowship with God burn within his heart and mind. He is in anguish that he could not go to the Temple to worship and fellowship with God!
His intense desire to worship God have driven him to desperation and what can he do being entangled in restricted circumstances that he simply could not be in the very place he knew his friends his people were worshiping God during their appointed festival?
God have His appointed festival where His chosen people are to meet and observe the proper ways of worship and celebration, so this psalmist was taught to do so, he had done it in time past, he enjoy it, he had tasted that God is good full of kindness and mercy, and now he is in anguish he could not join the festival!
The psalmist in desperation took courage and cries out to God in whatever difficult circumstances he was in, perhaps inspired of the Holy Spirit
གསུང་མགུར 42:5-8
5ཀྱེ་ངའི་སེམས་ཉིད་ཁྱོད་ནི་ཅི་ལ་ཕམ། ང་ཡི་ཁོག་ནང་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་འཁྲུགས་པ་ཡིན།
ང་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་ནང་རེ་བཅོལ་ཞུས། ང་ནི་སླར་ཡང་ཁོང་ལ་བསྟོད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན།
ཁོང་ནི་ང་ཡི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡིན།
6ང་ཡི་སེམས་ཉིད་ཅི་ལ་ཆགས་པ་ཡིན། དེའི་ཕྱིར་ང་ནི་ཡོར་དན་གྱི་ཡུལ་ནས།
ཧར་མོན་མི་སར་རི་ནས་ཁྱེད་དྲན་ནོ།
7ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ཆུ་འཕྱར་དེ་ཡི་སྐད་ཐོས་ནས། གཏིང་ཟབ་གཅིག་གིས་གཅིག་ལ་བོས་ཀྱི་འདུག།
རྦ་རླབ་ཆེ་ཆུང་གཉིས་ཀས་ང་འགེབས་ཡོད།
8ཉིན་མོར་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས། ཁོང་གི་རྒྱུན་ལྡན་ཐུགས་བརྩེ་སྟོན་གནང་ཤོག།
དེའི་རྐྱེན་ང་ཡི་མཚན་མོ་མགུར་མ་བླངས། ང་ཡིས་སྲོག་གི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་སྨོན་ལམ་འདེབས།
Psalm 42:5-8
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation 6 and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.
8 By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
We are to remember God at all times, especially in distress, in pain and sufferings.
Sometime we just have no answer to any or all the questions we have in our mind why we suffer.
For whatever reasons we are being restricted to be with the congregations to worship God together with believers and disciples of Jesus, we are to remember God and to cry out to God wherever we are.
གསུང་མགུར 42:9-10
9ང་ལ་སྲུང་སྐྱོབ་གནང་མཁན་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལགས། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་ང་ལ་བརྗེད་པ་གནང་།
དགྲ་བོས་ང་ལ་མནར་གཅོད་བཏང་བས་རྐྱེན། ང་ཡིས་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་མྱོང་དགོས་སམ།
10དེ་ཚོས་འཕྱ་གཏམ་གྱིས་ང་ཡི་རུ་པ་རྣམས་གཅོག།
ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གང་དུ་ཡོད་ཟེར་བརྙས་བཅོས་བྱེད།
Psalm 42:9-10
9 I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
Here in two short verses the psalmist revealed the causes of his intense sufferings
- Oppression of the enemy
- Being taunted “Where is your God?”
Who and what was the enemy targeting the psalmist? And for what reason he was being targeted?
The mockery directed towards the psalmist intensified the pain “Where is your God?”
Were such provocative remarks coming from his human enemy or people around him? Or both known enemy and people he trusted?
Did the psalmist felt betrayed?
How did the psalmist cry out to God for help?
“I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me?”
What a bold statement and confession from the psalmist!
Apparently such bold confession is prophetic and inspired of the Holy Spirit!
Remember Jesus prayed a similar prayer while He was dying on the cross

45ཉིན་གུང་ནས་ཕྱི་དྲོའི་ཆུ་ཚོད་གསུམ་བར༌དུ། ཡུལ་ཡོངས་ལ་མུན་ནག་འཐིབས༌ཤིང༌། 46ཕྱི་དྲོའི་ཆུ་ཚོད་གསུམ་ཙམ་ལ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་གསུང་སྐད་ཆེན༌པོས། ཨེ༌ལེ། ཨེ༌ལེ། ལཱ་མཱ་སཱ་པཱག་ཐཱ་ནེ་ཞེས་གསུངས༌ཤིང༌། དོན་ནི་འདི་ལྟ༌སྟེ། ཀྱེ། བདག་གི་དཀོན་མཆོག༌ལགས། བདག་གི་དཀོན་མཆོག༌ལགས། ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ང་རང་རྒྱབ་ཏུ་བསྐྱུར་དོན་ཅི་ཞེས༌པའོ།། 47གནས་དེར་ཡོད་པའི་མི་འགའ་ཞིག་གིས་གསུང་དེ་ཐོས༌རྗེས། མི་འདིས་ཨེ་ལི་ཡཱ་འབོད་ཀྱིན་འདུག་ཅེས་སྨྲས་མ༌ཐག 48དེ་དག་གི་ཁྲོད་ནས་མི་ཞིག་བརྒྱུགས་སོང་ནས་འགྱིག་སོབ་ཅིག་རྒུན་ཆང་སྐྱུར་མོར་སྦངས༌ཏེ། འདམ་རྩྭའི་རྩེར་བཀལ་ནས་ཁོང་ལ་འདྲེན་པའི་དུས༌སུ། 49གཞན་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། ཅུང་ཙམ་སྒུག༌དང༌། ཨེ་ལི་ཡཱ་ཁོ་རང་སྐྱོབ་ཏུ་ཡོང་མིན་ལ་བལྟ་བར་བྱའོ་ཞེས་སྨྲས༌སོ།། 50སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་སླར་ཡང་སྐད་གསང་མཐོན་པོས་འབོད་སྒྲ་ཞིག་བསྒྲགས་པ་དང་སྐུ་སྲོག་ཕུལ༌ཏོ།།
Matthew 27:45-50
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
The enemies of Jesus seem to do the same taunting “let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”
Jesus actually died on the cross and was buried. The enemies rejoiced but they were blinded to the ultimate plan and purpose of God.
ཀོ་རིན་ཐུ་པ་དང་པོ། 2:6-13
6དེ་ལྟར་སྨྲས༌ནའང༌། ངེད་ཅག་གིས་དད་པ་བརྟན་པོ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཁྲོད་ནས་ཤེས་རབ་སྐོར༌སྨྲ་བ་ཡིན་མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་དེ་ནི་འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་ཤེས་རབ་མ་ཡིན༌ལ། འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་དབང་དང་གོ་གནས་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཕྱིས་སུ་ཕམ་ཞིང་འཇིག་པར་འགྱུར་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱང་མིན༌ཏེ། 7ངེད་ཅག་གིས་སྨྲ་བའི་ཤེས་རབ་ནི་ཐོག་མ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་སྔ་རོལ་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཐག་གིས་བཅད་ཅིང་། བདག་ཅག་ལ་གཟི་བརྗིད་འཐོབ་པའི༌ཕྱིར། ཁོང་གིས་གསང་བར་མཛད་པའི་ཤེས་རབ་དེ་ཉིད་ཡིན་ནོ།། 8འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་དབང་དང་གོ་གནས་ཡོད་པ་རྣམས་ལས་ཤེས་རབ་དེ་ཉིད་རྟོགས་མཁན་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་མཆིས། གལ༌ཏེ། དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་རྟོགས་པ་ཡིན༌ན། གཟི་བརྗིད་ལྡན་པའི་གཙོ་བོ་ནི་ཤིང་རྒྱ་གྲམ་གྱི་སྟེང་དུ་བརྡབས་མེད་དོ།། 9དེ་ལ་གསུང་རབ་ཀྱི་མདོ་ལས་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ།
དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ནི་རང་ཉིད༌ལ།།
གཅེས་མཁན་དག་ལ་སྟ་གོན༌མཛད།།
དེ་ནི་མིག་གིས་མ་མཐོང་ཞིང་།།
རྣ་བས་ཐོས་པར་མ་གྱུར་ལ།།
སེམས་སུ་དྲན་ཡང་མ་མྱོང་ངོ་།།
ཞེས་བཀོད་པ་བཞིན་ནོ།། 10འོན༌ཀྱང༌། དོན་དེ་རྣམས་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ངང་ནས་བདག་ཅག་ལ་གསལ་པོར་མངོན་པར་མཛད༌པ་ཡིན། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་དོན་ཀུན་མཁྱེན༌ཞིང་། དཔོག་པར་དཀའ་བའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་གསང་བའི་དོན་རྣམས་ཀྱང་མཁྱེན་པའི་ཕྱིར༌རོ།། 11མིའི་སེམས་ནང་གི་སེམས་ཉིད་ལས༌གཞན། སུ་ཞིག་གིས་མི་དེའི་བསམ་པ་ཤེས༌སམ། དེ་བཞིན་དུ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ལས༌གཞན། སུ་ཞིག་གིས་ཀྱང་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་དགོངས་མི་རྟོགས་སོ།། 12བདག་ཅག་ལ་ཐོབ་པ་ནི་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་སེམས་ཉིད་མ་ཡིན༌པར། དཀོན་མཆོག་ནས་བྱུང་བའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཡིན༌ཏེ། དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་བདག་ཅག་ལ་གནང་བའི་གནང་སྦྱིན་དེ་དག་བདག་ཅག་གིས་རྟོགས་ཐུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཡིན༌ལ། 13ངེད་ཅག་གིས་དོན་དེ་རྣམས་སྨྲ་བ་ཡིན་ཞིང་། དེ་ནི་མིའི་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱིས་བསྟན་པའི་ཚིག་བཞིན་མ་ཡིན༌པར། དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་བསྟན་པ༌བཞིན། དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་མི་རྣམས་ལ་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱི་དོན་འགྲེལ་བ་ཡིན་ནོ།།
1 Corinthians 2:6-13
6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
Paul’s emphases –
None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory
The suffering death and resurrection of Jesus is our hope of redemption and salvation and our path to eternal life and fellowship with God!
The ending verse of Psalm 42 is a firm statement of faith and confession inspired of the Holy Spirit, and prophetic of our hope of salvation in Christ

ཀྱེ་ངའི་སེམས་ཉིད་ཁྱོད་ནི་ཅི་ལ་ཕམ། ང་ཡི་ཁོག་ནང་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་འཁྲུགས་པ་ཡིན།
ང་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་ནང་རེ་བཅོལ་ཞུས། ང་ནི་སླར་ཡང་ཁོང་ལ་བསྟོད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན།
ཁོང་ནི་ང་ཡི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡིན༎
Psalm 42:11

As mentioned earlier sometime we just have no answer to any or all the questions we have in our mind why we suffer.
But the truth of God’s words already revealed to us we will go through hardship and sufferings for Christ.
Our faith will be tested.
We will be attacked by enemies and taunted by people around us.
But we never cease to desire to be in fellowship with Jesus and we must continue sowing the words of God in us and among us.
We overcome the pain and sufferings of this world with our confession in Christ, amen!
