Growing in the grace of God
པེ་ཏྲོ་གཉིས་པ། 3:8
སྙིང་ནས་བརྩེ་བའི་སྤུན་ཟླ༌རྣམས། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་བརྗེད་མི་རུང༌བ་ཞིག་ནི། གཙོ་བོའི་སྤྱན་ལམ་དུ་ཉིན་གཅིག་ནི་ལོ་འཁོར་ཆིག་སྟོང་དང་ལོ་འཁོར་ཆིག་སྟོང་ནི་ཉིན་གཅིག་དང་མཚུངས་པ་དེ་ཡིན་ནོ།།
2 Peter 3:8
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
So as according to Peter’s teaching we can grow in the grace of God.
Beside scripture knowledge and understanding how else can we actually grow in the grace of God?
1) Attitude of forgiveness
2) Acts of charity
First let’s look at forgiveness –
ལོ་ཀུ 7:40-50
40སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་ཕ་རུ་ཤི་པ་དེ་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། སི༌མོན། བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་ལ་དོན་ཞིག་སྨྲ་བར་བྱའོ་ཞེས་གསུངས༌ཤིང༌། ཁོས་ཀྱང་སློབ་དཔོན་ལགས་གསུང་བར་མཛོད་ཅེས་ཞུས་པ༌དང༌། 41ཡང་ཁོང་གིས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། དེ་ཡང་བུན་བདག་ཅིག་ལ་བུ་ལོན་པ་གཉིས་ཡོད༌དེ། གཅིག་གིས་དངུལ་སྒོར་ལྔ་བརྒྱ་དང་ཅིག་ཤོས་ཀྱིས་དངུལ་སྒོར་ལྔ་བཅུའི་བུ་ལོན་ཆད་ཡོད༌ནའང༌། 42མི་དེ་གཉིས་ཀྱིས་བུ་ལོན་འཇལ་མ་ཐུབ༌པས། བུན་བདག་གིས་སྙིང་རྗེ་སྐྱེས་ནས་མི་དེ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་བུ་ལོན་མེད་པར་བྱས་སོ།། དེས་ན་མི་དེ་གཉིས་ལས་སུ་ཞིག་གིས་ཁོ་ལ་ལྷག་པར་གཅེས་སམ་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌ལ། 43སི་མོན་གྱིས་བུ་ལོན་མང་པོ་མེད་པར་བྱས་པ་དེས་ཁོ་ལ་ལྷག་ཏུ་གཅེས་སོ་སྙམ་ཞེས་ཞུས༌ཤིང༌། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་སྨྲས་པ་ལེགས་སོ་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌དང༌། 44ཡང་ཞལ་ཕྱིར་འཁོར་ཏེ་བུད་མེད་དེར་གཟིགས་ནས་སི་མོན་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་བུད་མེད་འདི་མཐོང་བྱུང༌ངམ། ང་རང་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ཁྱིམ་དུ་ཡོང་ནའང་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ང་རང་ལ་རྐང་པ་བཀྲུ་བྱེད་ཀྱི་ཆུ་ཡང་མ་བླུགས༌མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་ཁོ་མོའི་མིག་ཆུས་བདག་གི་རྐང་པ་བརླན་ཞིང་སྐྲ་ཡིས་ཕྱིས། 45ཡང་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་བདག་ལ་འོ་མ་བྱས༌ཀྱང༌། ཁོ་མོས་ང་རང་འདིར་ཡོང་བ་ནས་བཟུང་བདག་གི་རྐང་པར་མཚམས་མེད་པར་འོ་བྱས། 46ཡང་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་བདག་གི་མགོར་སྣུམ་གྱིས་མ་བྱུགས༌ནའང༌། ཁོ་མོས་བདག་གི་རྐང་པར་སྤོས་ཆུ་བྱུགས་སོ།། 47དེའི༌ཕྱིར། བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་ལ་སྨྲ་བར་བྱ༌སྟེ། ཁོ་མོས་བདག་ལ་ཤིན་ཏུ་གཅེས་པས། ཁོ་མོར་སྡིག་པ་མང་པོ་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཐམས་ཅད་བསལ་བ་ཡིན། འོན་ཀྱང་སུ་ཡི་སྡིག་པ་ཉུང་ངུ་བསལ་བ་དེས་ཉུང་ངུ་ཞིག་གཅེས་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།། 48དེ་ནས་ཁོང་གིས་བུད་མེད་དེ་ལ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་སྡིག་པ་བསལ་བ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌ན། 49ཁོང་དང་མཉམ་དུ་བཟའ་བཏུང་སྤྱད་ནས་སྡོད་པའི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སེམས་སུ་མི་འདི་ནི་སུ་ཡིན༌ནམ། ཁོང་གིས་སྡིག་པའང་བསལ་བ་ཡིན་ཞེས་བསམས་སོ།། 50ཡང་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་བུད་མེད་དེ་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་དད་པས་ཁྱོད་རང་བསྐྱབས་པ་ཡིན། བདེ་བའི་ངང་ནས་ཕྱིར་སོང་ཞིག་ཅེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།
Luke 7:40-50
40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” 50 And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
How this incident in Luke 7 became a lesson on forgiveness?
Forgiveness is perhaps the most difficult task for all mankind.
Especially when we are hurt by those close to us, people we trusted.
Victims of crime have every reason to hate and be resentful.
Our world is in a mess.
Jesus came and took our pain and sufferings that we may learn to forgive –
ཨེ་ཕེ་སི་པ། 2:4-10
4འོན༌ཀྱང༌། དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ་ཡོད་པ་དང་བདག་ཅག་ལ་ཤིན་ཏུ་བྱམས་ཤིང་གཅེས༌པས། 5སྔར་བདག་ཅག་ཉེས་པའི་ཁྲོད་དུ་ཤི་བའི་དུས་སུ། བདག་ཅག་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་དང་ལྷན་དུ་གསོན་པར་མཛད། དེ་ནི་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཐར་པ་འཐོབ་པར་མཛད༌པ་ཡིན་ནོ།། 6ཡང་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་བདག་ཅག་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ནང་དུ་ཁོང་དང་མཉམ་དུ་སླར་གསོན་པ༌དང༌། ཁོང་དང་ལྷན་ཅིག་ནམ་མཁའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ་སྡོད་པར་མཛད། 7དེ་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་རང་གི་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ༌སྟེ། མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ནང་དུ་བདག་ཅག་ལ་གནང་བའི་སྙིང་རྗེ་དེ་ནི་བསྐལ་པ་འབྱུང་འགྱུར་དུ་མངོན་པར་མཛད་པའི་ཕྱིར༌ཡིན། 8མདོར་ན། དད་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཐར་པ་འཐོབ་པར་མཛད་པ༌ལས། རང་ལ་བརྟེན་པ་མ་ཡིན་པར་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་གནང་བ་ཡིན་ནོ།། 9དེ་ནི་རང་བྱས་ཀྱི་ལས་ལ་བརྟེན་པ་མ་ཡིན༌ལ། མི་སུ་ཡིན་ཡང་ཁ་ཕོ་མི་བཤད་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཡིན། 10དོན་དམ་དུ་བདག་ཅག་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ལེགས་པར་བཅོས་པ་ཡིན༌ཏེ། མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ནང་དུ་དོན་བཟང་པོ་བསྒྲུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་བདག་ཅག་བཀོད་པ་ཡིན་ལ། དོན་བཟང་པོ་དེ་དག་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གིས་བསྒྲུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་སྔ་མོ་ནས་སྟ་གོན་མཛད༌པའོ།།
Ephesians 2:4-10
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
We first received this grace and forgiveness from God through Jesus.
Without this forgiveness from Jesus it would have been difficult if not impossible for us to forgive those who sinned against us.
Now we can share this grace and forgiveness with people around us.
Forgiveness does not mean turning a blind eye to sin and criminal offenses but to deal with situation as according to the ways of God as taught by Jesus.
Revenge killing have become pervasive in societies today.
The refusal to forgive can breed deep rooted anger and resentment leading to unrestrained bloodshed unlawful killing which can cause more unnecessary pain and sufferings.
The world today has become more complex due to spiritual darkness.
We need the light of God’s truth and we need Jesus to help us out of spiritual darkness.
Those who reject the moral standard of God as revealed in scripture will do more harm as their hearts and minds gets more harden against the will of God.
What can we do?
If possible seek the right kind of fellowship that we may grow in grace, do acts of charity in the name of Christ, and continue to grow in grace.
མཛད་འཕྲིན། 4:32-33
32དེ་ཡང་དད་ལྡན་དེ་ཐམས་ཅད་བློ་སེམས་གཅིག་མཐུན་ཡིན་པ༌དང༌། སུས་ཀྱང་རང་གི་རྒྱུ་རྫས་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ཡིན་མི་ཟེར་བར་དེ་ཐམས་ཅད་སྤྱི་གཞུང་གིས་སྤྱོད༌པ་རེད། 33སྐུ་ཚབ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ནུས་མཐུ་ཆེན་པོའི་ངང་ནས་གཙོ་བོ་ཡེ་ཤུ་སླར་གསོན་པའི་དོན་དེ་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་པ༌དང༌། མི་ཐམས་ཅད་ལའང་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོ་ཐོབ།
Acts 4:32-33
32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
The togetherness of the disciples provided some sort of basic check-and-balance that we may not stray into path of darkness and get hurt.
Our acts of charities among the believers and disciples will be blessed by the Lord.
As we forgive and do charities and continue to grow in the grace of Jesus we will be better equip and strengthen to reach out to those outside the fellowship who have yet to know Jesus.
Grace and peace of Jesus be with us forever, amen.
