To Believe in Jesus – Part 24

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 4:25-38

27དེའི་ཚེ་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཕྱིར་ལོག་པ༌དང་། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་བུད་མེད་ཅིག་ལ་གསུང་གླེང་མཛད་ཀྱིན་ཡོད་པ་མཐོང་སྟེ་ཧ་ལས༌པ་རེད། འོན་ཀྱང་སུས་ཀྱང་ཁོང་ལ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ཅི་དགོངས༌སམ། བུད་མེད་དེ་ལ་གསུང་གླེང་མཛད་དོན་ཅི་ཞེས་འདྲི་མ་ཕོད་དོ།། 28དེ་ནས་བུད་མེད་དེས་རང་གི་ཆུ་ཟོ་བསྐྱུར་ཏེ་གྲོང་རྡལ་དུ་སོང་ནས་མི་རྣམས་ལ་ན༌རེ། 29ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཤོག་དང་། འདིར་མི་ཞིག་ཡོད་པར་ལྟོས་ཤིག དེས་ངས་བྱས་པའི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་རེ་རེ་བཞིན་གསུངས་པས་ཁོ་རང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་སྲིད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 30མི་དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱང་གྲོང་རྡལ་ལས་ཕྱིར་ཐོན་ཏེ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ཆས༌སོ།།

31དེའི་དུས༌སུ། ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། རཱབ་པེ་ལགས། ཞལ་ཟས་བཞེས་རོགས་ཞེས་ནན་གྱིས་ཞུས་ནའང་། 32ཁོང་གིས་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། བདག་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཟས་དེ་ཅི་ཡིན་མི་ཤེས་ཞེས་གསུངས་པས། 33ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཕན་ཚུན་ན༌རེ། ཡང་ན་མི་ཞིག་གིས་ཁོང་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཕུལ་བ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་སྨྲས་སོ།། 34དེ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ང་རང་མངགས་མཁན་གྱི་དགོངས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་དང་ཁོང་གི་ཆོས་དོན་སྒྲུབ་པ་དེ་ནི་བདག་གི་ཁ་ཟས་ཡིན། 35ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ། ཞིང་འབྲེག་པའི་དུས་ལ་ད་དུང་ཟླ་བ་བཞི་ཡོད་ཅེས་ཟེར་བ་མིན༌ནམ། འོན་ཀྱང་བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད་སྨྲ༌སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཞིང་ལ་ལྟོས༌དང༌། ལོ་ཏོག་སྨིན་པར་གྱུར་པས་ཞིང་འབྲེག་རན༌ཏེ། 36ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་ལ་གླ་ཆ་ཐོབ་ཟིན་པ༌དང༌། མཐའ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་སྲོག་གི༌ཆེད་དུ་འབྲས་བུ་བསྡུ་གསོག་བྱེད་བཞིན་ཡོད་ལ། དེ་ནི་ས་བོན་འདེབས་མཁན་དང་ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་གཉིས་ཀ་མཉམ་དུ་དགའ་ཞིང་སྤྲོ་བར་འགྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།། 37ཡང་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ།

མི་དེ་ཡིས་ས་བོན༌བཏབ།།

མི་འདི་ཡིས་འབྲུ་རིགས༌བསྡུས།།

ཞེས་པ་དེ་བདེན༌ནོ།། 38བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་མ་བརྟེན་པ་གང་དེ་བསྡུ་བར་མངགས་པ་ཡིན། མི་གཞན་གྱིས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་བརྟེན་ཅིང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ངལ་བའི་འབྲས་བུ་དེ་ལོངས་སུ་སྤྱད་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།

John 4:27-38

27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

 

This conversation Jesus had with the woman at the well was developing in an interesting manner. Till today this incident still is use as a case study for evangelism.

We know the basis of “believe in Jesus” for salvation, but how do we encourage people to believe in Jesus?

Obviously Jesus was having a fruitful conversation with someone of listening ear and an open heart! So the first step to effective evangelism is look for listening ears and open hearts!

Apparently the timing seems right that after Jesus revealed His identity as Messiah to the woman at the well, His disciples returned and the woman immediately left without further interactions with those Jewish disciples of Jesus!

The writer of John’s Gospel noted the woman left her water pot there by the well as if with intention for Jesus’ disciple to help themselves to a drink or she was in a hurry to leave so as to avoid any interaction with them. Either way her decision to leave was immediate.

Another interesting episode devalued – that she did not go into isolation after being confronted by Jesus about her personal life but she confess her encounter with the Messiah to her neighbors!

We can observe that in the midst of obvious cultural and racial discrimination between Jews and Samaritans, the woman was comfortable talking to Jesus but not His disciples! So was there something about Jesus’ character that makes Him welcoming and approachable to those in needs?

I believe her encounter with Jesus was heartwarming to the extent she passed the good news of meeting the Messiah to her community –

 

28དེ་ནས་བུད་མེད་དེས་རང་གི་ཆུ་ཟོ་བསྐྱུར་ཏེ་གྲོང་རྡལ་དུ་སོང་ནས་མི་རྣམས་ལ་ན༌རེ། 29ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཤོག་དང་། འདིར་མི་ཞིག་ཡོད་པར་ལྟོས་ཤིག དེས་ངས་བྱས་པའི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་རེ་རེ་བཞིན་གསུངས་པས་ཁོ་རང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་སྲིད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 30མི་དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱང་གྲོང་རྡལ་ལས་ཕྱིར་ཐོན་ཏེ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ཆས༌སོ།།

It is amazing how Jesus evangelize and how people response.

This woman at the well, apart from the recorded conversation between Jesus and her, we really do not know any more details about her life. And how did the rest of her community react so positively? Were they also waiting eagerly for the Messiah!

Apparently they were waiting for a savior.

May God show us among those yet to hear the Gospel, who among them are of listening ears and open hearts!
