བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་སྐྱར་བཤད་ 18

1  ལེ་ཝིའི་སྡེ་རིགས་ཀྱི་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ལ་ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་དུ་ས་སྐལ་གང་ཡང་མི་ཐོབ་མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་འཕུལ་བའི་འབུལ་བ་དང་མཆོད་པའི་དམར་མཆོད་གཞན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁོ་ཚོའི་འཚོ་བ་བསྐྱེལ་དགོས་པ་ཡིན། 2  སྡེ་རིགས་གཞན་དང་འདྲ་བ་དེ་ཚོས་ས་ཞིང་བདག་ཉར་བྱེད་མི་ཆོག འོན་ཀྱང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཞལ་བཞེས་གནང་བ་ལྟར་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བླ་མ་བྱེད་རྒྱུ་དེ་ནི་ཁོ་ཚོའི་ཆེད་དུ་དམིགས་བསལ་གྱི་ཐོབ་སྐལ་ཡིན་ནོ།

3  ལུག་དང་ཕྱུགས་ཟོག་གང་ཞིག་དམར་མཆོད་འབུལ་སྐབས་དེའི་དཔུང་པ་དང་། འགྲམ་ཤ་དང་གྲོད་པ་བཅས་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ལ་འབུལ་དགོས། 4  དེ་བཞིན་འབྲུ་དང་རྒུན་ཆང་དང་ཁ་སྐྱུར་པོའི་སྣུམ་དང་བལ་སོགས་ཀྱི་ཕུད་དེ་ཁོ་ཚོར་ཐོབ་པར་འགྱུར། 5  ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་སྡེ་རིགས་ཡོངས་ཀྱི་ནང་ནས་ལེ་ཝིའི་སྡེ་རིགས་དེ་ནི་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་རྒུན་དུ་བཀུར་སྟི་ཞུ་ཕྱིར་ཁོང་གིས་དེ་དག་བླ་མའི་ཚུལ་དུ་འདམས་པ་གནང་བ་ཡིན་ནོ།

6  ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་གྱི་གྲོང་ཚོ་གང་རུང་ནས་ལེ་ཝི་པ་སུ་འདྲ་ཞིག་ཀྱང་རང་གི་འདོད་མོས་བཞིན་མཆོད་འབུལ་བྱེད་སའི་ས་གནས་གཅིག་པོ་དེར་འོངས་ནས། 7  དེར་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་མཁན་ལེ་ཝི་པ་གཞན་དང་འདྲ་བར་བླ་མ་བྱས་ཏེ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་སྲི་ཞུ་ཞུས་ཆོག་པ་ཡིན་ནོ། 8  བླ་མ་གཞན་དང་འདྲ་བར་ཁོ་ལའང་ཁ་ཟས་ཀྱི་ཐོབ་སྐལ་འདྲ་མཉམ་ཐོབ་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པ་དང་། ཁོའི་ནང་མིས་བཏང་བའི་དངོས་རྫས་ཚང་མ་རང་གིས་བཞག་ཆོག་པ་ཡིན་ནོ༎

9  ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཁྱོད་ཚོར་གནང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཡུལ་དེར་ཁྱོད་ཚོ་བསླེབས་པ་དང་། ཡུལ་དེའི་མི་རིགས་དེ་ཚོའི་ཞན་ལོག་ཅན་གྱི་ལུགས་སྲོལ་གི་རྗེས་སུ་མ་འབྲངས་ཤིག 10  ཁྱོད་ཚོས་རང་གི་བུ་ཕྲུག་རྣམས་མཆོད་ཁྲིའི་ཁར་དམར་མཆོད་འབུལ་ནས་མེར་སྲེག་མ་གཏོང་ཞིག དེ་བཞིན་མི་མང་རྣམས་ལ་མོ་དང་བརྟག་པ་བརྒྱབ་པ་དང་། མཐུ་བརྒྱབ་པ་དང་། 11  ངན་སྔགས་བྱེད་པ་དང་། གཞན་ཡང་གཤིན་པོའི་རྣམ་ཤེས་བཀུག་སྟེ་གྲོས་གླེང་སོགས་བྱེད་དུ་མ་ཆུག་ཅིག 12  ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་ཞན་ལོག་གི་ལས་བྱེད་མི་རྣམས་ལ་སྡང་བ་གནང་ངོ་། དེའི་རྐྱེན་གྱི་ཁྱོད་ཚོ་མདུན་བསྐྱོད་བྱེད་སྐབས་དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་མི་རིགས་རྣམས་ལ་ཁོང་གི་ཡུལ་དེ་ནས་ཕྱིར་སྐྲོད་གནང་བ་ཡིན་ནོ། 13  གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་བློ་སེམས་རྩེ་གཅིག་གི་སྒོ་ནས་དམ་ཚིག་ནང་གནས་ཤིག།

14  དེ་ནས་མོ་ཤེས་སྨྲས་པ། ཁྱོད་ཚོས་དབང་འཛིན་བྱེད་གྲབ་ཡོད་པའི་ཡུལ་དེར་བསླེབས་པ་དང་། མི་ཚོས་མོ་པ་དང་བརྟག་པ་བྱེད་མཁན་དག་ལ་བརྟེན་ཐབས་བྱེད་མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་དེ་འདྲ་བྱེད་བཅུག་མི་གནང་ངོ་། 15  ཁོང་གིས་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀྱིལ་ནས་ང་དང་འདྲ་བའི་ལུང་སྟོན་པ་ཞིག་གཏོང་བ་གནང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པས། ཁྱོད་ཚོས་དེའི་བཀའ་ལ་ཉན་དགོས་སོ།

16  སྔར་ཁྱོད་ཚོ་རི་བོ་སི་ནཨེ་རུ་འཛོམས་པའི་ཉིན་མོར་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་གསུང་དེ་སྐྱར་དུ་ཐོས་མ་དགོས་པ་དང་། མེ་དང་འདྲ་བའི་ཁོང་གི་གཟི་བརྗིད་དེ་ཡང་སྐྱར་མཇལ་མི་དགོས་པའི་སྨོན་འདུན་བྱས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ། གང་ལགས་ཟེར་ན། ཁྱོད་ཚོ་འཆི་བར་འཇིགས་པས་ཕྱིར་རོ། 17  དེ་རྗེས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ང་ལ། དེ་ཚོས་ཤེས་རབ་ལྡན་པའི་ཞུ་བ་འབུལ་བ་ཡིན་པས། 18  ངས་དེ་ཚོའི་མི་ཁོངས་ནས་ཁྱོད་དང་འདྲ་བའི་ལུང་སྟོན་པ་ཞིག་གཏོང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པ་དང་། ཁོས་གང་བརྗོད་དགོས་པ་དེ་ངས་ཁོ་ལ་བཤད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པ་དང་། ངས་བཀའ་བསྒོས་གང་བྱས་པ་ཚང་མ་ཁོས་མི་མང་ལ་ཤོད་ཡོང་། 19  ཁོས་ངའི་མིང་གི་ངང་དུ་བཤད་ཡོང་། ཁོས་སྨྲས་པ་ལ་སུ་ཞིག་གི་རྩིས་སྲུང་མ་བྱེད་ན་ངས་ཉེས་ཆད་གཏོང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན། 20  འོན་ཀྱང་ངས་བཀའ་བསྒོས་མ་བྱས་པར་ལུང་སྟོན་པ་ཞིག་གིས་ངའི་མིང་གི་ངང་ནས་ལུང་བསྟན་བཤད་པ་དང་། དེ་བཞིན་ལྷ་རྟེན་གཞན་གྱི་མིང་གི་ངང་ནས་ལུང་བསྟན་བཤད་མཁན་རྣམས་ངེས་པར་དུ་ཤི་དགོས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།

21  ལུང་སྟོན་པས་ལུང་བསྟན་གང་བཤད་པ་དེ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཕྱོགས་ནས་ཡིན་མིན་དེ་ཇི་ལྟར་ཤེས་ཐུབ་བམ་ཞེས་རང་གི་སེམས་ནང་བྲིས་བ་བྱེད་སྲིད་མོད། 22  འོན་ཀྱང་ལུང་སྟོན་པས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་མཚན་གྱི་ངང་ནས་ལུང་བསྟན་བཤད་པ་ཡིན་ན། དེ་དག་མ་འགྲུབ་པ་ཡིན་ན་ལུང་བསྟན་དེ་ནི་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཕྱོགས་ནས་མ་ཡིན་པར། ལུང་སྟོན་པ་དེས་རང་གི་བསམ་ཚུལ་བཞིན་དུ་ལུང་བསྟན་བརྒྱབ་པ་ཡིན་པས། དེ་ལ་ཁྱོད་ཚོ་འཇིགས་མི་དགོས་སོ༎

Deuteronomy 18

“The Levitical priests, all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the Lord’s food offerings as their inheritance. 2 They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them. 3 And this shall be the priests’ due from the people, from those offering a sacrifice, whether an ox or a sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder and the two cheeks and the stomach. 4 The firstfruits of your grain, of your wine and of your oil, and the first fleece of your sheep, you shall give him. 5 For the Lord your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the name of the Lord, him and his sons for all time.

6 “And if a Levite comes from any of your towns out of all Israel, where he lives—and he may come when he desires —to the place that the Lord will choose, 7 and ministers in the name of the Lord his God, like all his fellow Levites who stand to minister there before the Lord, 8 then he may have equal portions to eat, besides what he receives from the sale of his patrimony.

9 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer 11 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, 12 for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, 14 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.

15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— 16 just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ 17 And the Lord said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ 21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

1  སྐྱོན་དང་ལྡན་པའི་ཕྱུགས་ཟོག་གམ་ལུག་ཞིག་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་དམར་མཆོད་དུ་མ་འབུལ་ཞིག དེ་ལ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་སྡང་བ་གནང་ངོ་།

2-3  གལ་ཏེ་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་ཞིག་ཏུ་སྐྱེས་པའམ་བུད་མེད་ཤིག་གིས། གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་སྤྱན་སྔར་སྡིག་པ་བྱས་ཤིང་། ཁོང་དང་འཇོག་པའི་དམ་བཅའ་དང་འགལ་ཏེ། ལྷ་རྟེན་གཞན་ནམ་ཉི་ཟླའམ་རྒྱུ་སྐར་སོགས་ལ་བརྟེན་ཅིང་མཆོད་འབུལ་དང་ཞབས་ཏོག་བྱས་པ་ཡིན་ན། གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་ལ་རྒྱབ་འགལ་ཞུས་པའི་སྐོར་ལ། 4  ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ཐོས་ནས། དེར་བརྟགས་བཅད་ཞིབ་པར་བྱས་ཏེ། ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་གྱི་ནང་དུ་དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་རྐྱེན་ངན་ཞིག་བྱུང་ཡོད་པ་ངེས་ཏན་ཡིན་ན། 5  མི་དེ་ལ་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་གྱི་ཕྱི་རོལ་ཏུ་འཁྲིད་དེ་རྡོ་རུབ་བརྒྱབ་ནས་གསོད་དགོས། 6  འོན་ཀྱང་མི་གཉིས་སམ་དེ་ལས་མང་བས་དཔང་པོ་མ་བྱས་བར་དུ་མི་དེ་མ་གསོད་ཅིག དཔང་པོ་བྱེད་མཁན་གཅིག་མ་གཏོགས་མེད་ན་མི་དེ་བསད་མི་ཆོག 7  དཔང་པོ་བྱེད་མཁན་ཚོས་མི་དེ་ལ་ཐོག་མར་རྡོ་བརྒྱབ་དགོས་ཤིག དེ་རྗེས་མི་མང་བྱིངས་ནས་རྡོ་རུབ་བརྒྱབ་སྟེ། དེ་ལྟར་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ངན་པ་དེ་དག་ཚར་གཅོད་དགོས།

8  ས་གནས་ཀྱི་ཁྲིམས་དཔོན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཐག་གཅོད་དཀའ་བའི་རྩོད་རྙོག་དག་ཀྱང་ཡོང་སྲིད་པ་ནི། དཔེར་ན་ས་ཞིང་རྒྱུ་དངོས་སོགས་ཀྱི་རྩོད་རྙོག་དང་། ཉེས་རྡུང་རྨས་སྐྱོན་བྱེད་པ་དང་། མི་བསད་པའི་རྩོད་པ་སོགས་ཐག་གཅོད་བྱེད་དཀའ་བ་ཁག་བྱུང་བ་ཡིན་ན། གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་འདམས་པ་གནང་བའི་མཆོད་འབུལ་བྱེད་སའི་ས་གནས་གཅིག་པོ་དེར་ཕྱིན་ནས། 9  ལེ་ཝིའི་བླ་མ་རྣམས་དང་སྐབས་དེའི་ཁྲིམས་དཔོན་ཚོའི་མདུན་དུ་རྩོད་རྙོག་དེ་དག་བཞག་སྟེ། ཁོ་ཚོས་དེའི་སྐོར་ཐག་གཅོད་བྱེད་དགོས། 10  ཁོ་ཚོས་ཐག་གཅོད་གང་བྱས་པ་དེར་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ངོས་ལེན་གྱིས་དེ་བཞིན་ལག་ལེན་སྟར་དགོས། 11  ཁོ་ཚོས་ཁྲིམས་གཅོད་གང་བྱས་པ་དེ་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ངོས་ལེན་བྱེད་དགོས་པ་དང་། དེ་དག་ཞིབ་པར་ལག་ལེན་དུ་སྟར་དགོས། 12  ཁྲིམས་དཔོན་དང་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་བཀའ་ལ་མ་རྩིས་མཁན་སུ་ཡིན་རུང་དེ་དག་གསོད་དགོས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ། དེ་ལྟར་བྱས་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་གྱི་ནང་ནས་ངན་པ་དེ་དག་ཕྱིར་དཀྲོད་བྱེད་པར་འགྱུར། 13  དེ་རྗེས་ཚང་མས་གནས་ཚུལ་དེའི་སྐོར་ཐོས་ཏེ་སེམས་ལ་འཇིགས་སྣང་སྐྱེས་ཤིང་། སླད་ཕྱིན་སུས་ཀྱང་ལས་ངན་དེ་འདྲ་བྱེད་མི་ནུས་སོ༎

14  གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་གནང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཡུལ་དེ་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་བདག་འཛིན་བྱས་ཏེ་དེར་གཞིས་ཆགས་པའི་རྗེས་སུ། རང་གི་ཕྱོགས་བཞིར་ཡོད་པའི་མི་རིགས་ཚོ་དང་འདྲ་བར་ཁྱོད་ཚོ་ལའང་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཞིག་དགོས་པ་འདུག་ཅེས་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ཐག་གཅོད་བྱེད་ཡོང་། 15  ཁྱོད་ཚོས་རྒྱལ་པོར་འདེམས་བསྐོས་བྱས་པའི་མི་དེ་ལ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཀྱང་འདེམས་བསྐོས་གནང་བ་ཡིན་མིན་ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ངེས་གཏན་བྱེད་དགོས། མི་དེ་ནི་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་རིགས་བརྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ཁོངས་ནས་ཡིན་དགོས་ཤིང་། ཕྱི་རྒྱལ་བ་ཞིག་ལ་རང་གི་རྒྱལ་པོར་བསྐོ་མི་ཉེན། 16  རྒྱལ་པོས་རྟ་དམག་མང་པོ་བཞག་མི་ཆོག་པ་དང་། རྟ་ཉོ་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཨི་ཇིབ་དུ་རང་གི་མི་བཏང་མི་ཆོག གང་ལགས་ཟེར་ན། གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ངའི་མི་འབངས་རྣམས་ཡུལ་དེར་ནམ་ཡང་ཕྱིར་ལོག་བྱེད་མི་ཡོང་ཞེས་གསུངས་ཡོད། 17  རྒྱལ་པོས་ཆུང་མ་མང་པོ་བཞག་མི་རུང་། གང་ལགས་ཟེར་ན། དེའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ཁོ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ནས་ཁ་འགྱུར་ཉེན་ཡོད། ཡང་ཁོས་གསེར་དངུལ་མང་པོ་བདག་ཉར་བྱས་ཏེ་རང་ཉིད་ཕྱུགས་པོར་བཟོ་མི་ཉེན། 18  མི་ཞིག་རྒྱལ་པོར་འཁོད་པའི་རྗེས་སུ། ཁོས་ལེ་ཝིའི་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་རྩར་ཡོད་པའི་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་དང་བཀའ་སློབ་ཀྱི་མ་དེབ་ངོ་མ་ནས་ཤུས་པའི་དཔེ་དེབ་ཆ་ཚང་ཞིག་རང་དང་མཉམ་དུ་བདག་ཉར་བྱེད་དགོས། 19  ཁོས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་གུས་བཀུར་ཞུ་བ་དང་། དེར་གསལ་ཡོད་པའི་ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་ཚུལ་བཞིན་རྩིས་སྲུང་ཞུ་ཐུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར། ཁྲིམས་དེབ་དེ་བཞིན་རང་དང་མཉམ་དུ་བདག་ཉར་གྱིས་ཤིག རང་ཉིད་མ་ཤི་བར་དུ་དེ་ལས་རྒྱུན་སྒྲོགས་བྱེད་དགོས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ། 20  དེ་ལྟར་བྱས་པའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ཁོས་རང་ལ་ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་པ་བྱིངས་ལས་བཟང་བ་ཡིན་ཞེས་པའི་བསམ་བློ་གཏོང་རྒྱུ་དང་། གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་དང་འགལ་བའི་ལས་བྱེད་མཁན་ལས་འགོག་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་ནོ། དེ་ནས་ཁོས་ལོ་མང་བར་དུ་རྒྱལ་སྲིད་སྐྱོང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པ་དང་། ཁོའི་བུ་རྒྱུད་ཚོས་ཀྱང་ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་དུ་མི་རབས་ནས་མི་རབས་བར་དུ་སྲིད་སྐྱོང་བྱེད་པར་འགྱུར་རོ༎

Deuteronomy 17

“You shall not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep in which is a blemish, any defect whatever, for that is an abomination to the Lord your God.

2 “If there is found among you, within any of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, in transgressing his covenant, 3 and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden, 4 and it is told you and you hear of it, then you shall inquire diligently, and if it is true and certain that such an abomination has been done in Israel, 5 then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you shall stone that man or woman to death with stones. 6 On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one who is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness. 7 The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

8 “If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the Lord your God will choose. 9 And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and they shall declare to you the decision. 10 Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the Lord will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. 11 According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left. 12 The man who acts presumptuously by not obeying the priest who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 And all the people shall hear and fear and not act presumptuously again.

14 “When you come to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it and then say, ‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,’ 15 you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. 16 Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall never return that way again.’ 17 And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

18 “And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, 20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.
