Last time we read how, after the murder of Abel, Cain went away to the east and gave rise to a lineage of God-haters. We read in today’s scripture how God’s plan for another lineage arose; a line of men who were not God-haters. What to say? God wanted men to multiply; that is, God-like men to be fruitful and replenish the earth and subdue it responsibly (Genesis 1:27-29; 2:15).

Eve’s Faith
Eve recognized God’s purpose in giving her a third son. Had he not said that one of her descendants would trample on the head of the snake? (Genesis 3:15)

Seth’s Lineage
When Seth and his brothers and sisters grew up, and Seth now had a son of his own, men were beginning to make offerings to the LORD (Hebrew: Yahweh). If they asked for long life, God certainly gave them many years! If they asked him for children, their request was granted and they multiplied.
Like Adam they were made in the likeness of God, so that he could talk and walk with them, as he had wished to do in the Garden (Genesis 3:8). However it was Adam’s spoiled likeness to God that Seth and all his descendants possessed, a likeness spoiled by Adam’s sin (las ngan). But did they want to talk and walk with him? Keep reading.

Toil and Child-bearing
Life was filled with toiling; it was the focus of their lives (“They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage” Luke 17:27). As it was then, so it has been ever since for humans all over the world; for most it was the main focus of their lives. There is no record of any man desiring God’s friendship. And in the end they all died; that is except for Enoch, the son of Jared.
The Second Enoch
ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ། 11:5-6
5 དད་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ཧེ་ནོག་ཡར་དྲངས་ནས་འཆི་བ་མ་མྱོང༌། དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཁོང་ཡར་ཁྲིད་གནང་བས་མི་རྙེད་པར་གྱུར། ཁོང་ཡར་འདྲངས་པའི་སྔོན་ལ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་མཉེས་པའི་མི་ཡིན་པར་གདེང་འཇོག་ཐོབ། 6 དད་པ་མེད་པར་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཐུགས་མཉེས་མི་སྲིད། གང་ཡིན་ཟེར་ན། དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་དྲུང་དུ་ཡོང་བ་དེས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡོད་པ་དང༌། ཁོང་འཚོལ་མཁན་རྣམས་ལ་བྱ་དགའ་གནང་མཁན་ཡིན་པར་དད་པ་བྱེད་དགོས་པས་སོ།
Although it was true that men did not walk away from God like Cain, yet evil behaviour increased. [You can read how Enoch preached against evil men warning them of judgment for speaking against God (Jude 14, 15; James 3:8, 9)]
Enoch’s good behaviour (spyod lam) life pleased God. And it seemed to men that Enoch did not walk alone; he always seemed to have a friend beside him by whom he expected to be rewarded.
Enoch walked with God until God took him. He walked the ‘pilgrim ways in his heart’ (Psalm 84:5).

When God took Enoch to be with Himself, it was foretaste of ‘The Truth of the Cessation of Suffering’.
When Jesus restored to life a dead man, he said to his sister, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25).
ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 11 :5 ཡེ་ཤུས་ “སླར་གསོན་པ་དང་དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་ནི་ངའོ། སུ་ཡང་ང་ལ་དད་པ་བྱེད་མཁན་དེ་ཤི་ཡང་གསོན་པར་འགྱུར་ལ།
What to say? At the future second coming of Jesus he will take to himself righteous men, both those whose bodies have died, and those who are still alive when he comes (Matthew 24:40, 41; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).
Next time we will read about another of Seth’s descendants, Noah, whose father, the second Lamech, was another man with faith that God desired to reward the righteous man.
