Remember the Parable of the Sower
མད་ཐཱ། 13:23 – ས་བོན་ས་རྒྱུ་བཟང་པོ་ལ་འཐོར་བ་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཀའ་ཐོས་ནས་རྟོགས་པའི་མི་དེ་ཡིན། འབྲས་བུ་སྨིན་ཏེ། འབྲས་བུ་ཁ་ཤས་ལྡབ་བརྒྱ་དང༌། ཁ་ཤས་ལྡབ་དྲུག་ཅུ། ཁ་ཤས་ལྡབ་སུམ་ཅུ་བཅས་སྨིན་” ཞེས་གསུངས།
Matthew 13:23 – As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
The key to being fruitful for Jesus is “the one who hears the word and understands it”. Knowing and understanding the words of God is foundational to obedience and doing the will of God.
We have covered part 1 and 2
1) God’s provision of atonement and redemption for Man after Adam and Eve sinned against God
2) Deception that caused Adam and Eve to fall into sin
This lesson will focus on “What does scripture teaches us about sin”?
Christian denominations worldwide have adopted the simplified definition of “sin” as “missing the mark” and the result is that we today are having to deal with never ending debate and man-made ideas and theology of what is this “mark” or “standard” people are missing that constitute sin.
When Man tries to redefine sin without God’s truth we are heading for nowhere conclusive. As long as Christians and churches do not have a clear definite universal agreement and conclusion about “sin” there will be no unity of faith with the one and only God who created the heavens and the Earth. Different denominations will continue to split and separate even among their own groups and eventually we see more churches losing their identity in Christ.
Losing our identity in Christ will lead to losing our faith and future in Christ! That seem to be exactly what happened in Genesis 3 when the serpent deceived and confused Eve’s understanding about disobeying God’s word which resulted in her acts of sin. Eve got tricked by the serpent but that deception was effective within Eve’s willingness to redefine sin as what was suggested by the serpent.
Important lesson to be learned here is that the first response to dealing with deception is to have a clear knowledge and understanding of what God actually teaches us about sin as revealed in scripture.
We must do away with man-made ideas about sin. Scripture already provided us specifics of what sin is, and variations of sin, magnitude and influence of sin, how God will judge Man because of acts of sin, and why Man need redemption and how we are to receive redemption because of these specifics of sin manifested in a person’s life.
Sin is in the act of disobedience against God’s word.
Sin must be clearly defined within the context and boundary of God’s word, God’s law, and God’s commandments. All these are clearly revealed in the Torah. The Apostle Paul explained the definition of sin in his letter to the congregations of Rome
རོ་མཱ་པ། 7:7 – དེས་ན་ངེད་ཅག་གིས་ཅི་ཞིག༌སྨྲའམ། བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་ནི་སྡིག་པ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེ༌ན། གཏན་ནས་མིན༌ནོ།། འོན་ཀྱང་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་མེད་ན་ངས་སྡིག་པ་ནི་ཅི་ཞིག་ཡིན་པ་མི་ཤེས། བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་ལས་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ། འདོད་ཧམ་བཅང་མི་རུང་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ་མིན༌ན། བདག་གིས་འདོད་ཧམ་ནི་ཅི་ཞིག་ཡིན་པ་མི་ཤེས་སོ།།
Romans 7:7 – What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
Scripture does in fact provide clear definition of sin.
God created the Earth and set the rules for Man
God’s positive rule to Man was to be fruitful and multiply and manage the Earth under God’s delegated authority.
God also set in place the law of prohibition – the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Therefore when Adam and Eve disregarded God’s law of prohibition and did what they were told not to do they committed acts of sin against God.
So scripture do provide clear details about what sin is about. From the time of Adam to Moses a lot of details were added which constitute God’s law and commandments but that does not mean before Moses’s time people does not know what sin is about. People already knew what sin is and the consequences of sin and the judgement of God. People knew what it means to go against the words of God.
What God did in Exodus 20 was to reinforce His expectation for Man to act in obedience to His words

1དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་གསུངས་པའི་བཀའ་རྣམས་འདི་ལྟ་སྟེ། 2ཁྱོད་ཚོ་ཨི་ཇིབ་ཀྱི་བྲན་འོག་ནས་བཏོན་མཁན་དེ་ནི་ང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་དེ་ཡིན་ནོ།
3ཁྱོད་ཚོས་ང་མ་གཏོགས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གཞན་ཞིག་མཆོད་མི་རུང་ངོ་།
4ཁྱོད་ཚོས་རང་གི་ཆེད་དུ་སྟེང་གི་ནམ་མཁའ་འམ། འོག་གི་སའམ། ས་འོག་ཆུའི་ནང་ཡོད་པའི་གཟུགས་བརྙན་གང་ཞིག་གི་འདྲ་སྐུ་ཞིག་མ་བཟོ། 5སྐུ་འདྲ་གང་ཞིག་ལ་ཕྱག་མ་འཚལ་བ་དང་། དེ་དག་ལ་མཆོད་འབུལ་ལམ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་སོགས་གང་ཡང་མ་བྱེད་ཅིག གང་ལ་ཟེར་ན། ང་ནི་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོནམཆོག་ཡིན་པས། ང་དང་འདྲ་མཉམ་བྱེད་མཁན་སུ་ལ་ཡང་ངས་བཟོད་བསྲན་མི་བྱེད་ཅིང་། ང་ལ་སྡང་བར་བྱེད་མཁན་རྣམས་ལ་ངས་དེ་ཚོའི་རིགས་བརྒྱུད་ཀྱི་མི་རབས་གསུམ་དང་བཞི་བར་དུ་ཉེས་ཆད་གཏོང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན། 6འོན་ཀྱང་ང་ལ་མོས་མཁན་དང་ངའི་བཀའ་རྒྱ་སྲུང་མཁན་རྣམས་ལ་ངས་དེ་ཚོའི་མི་རབས་སྟོང་ཕྲག་མང་པོའི་བར་དུ་བྱམས་པ་བྱེད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན།
7དམིགས་ཡུལ་ངན་པ་ཞིག་སྒྲུབ་པའི་ཕྱིར་དུ་ངའི་མིང་དེ་མ་ལེན་ཞིག སུས་ཀྱང་ངའི་མིང་དེ་བེད་སྤྱོད་ལོག་པར་གཏོང་མཁན་དེ་ལ་ང་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་དཀོནམཆོག་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཆད་པ་གཏོང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་ནོ།
8ངལ་གསོ་བའི་ཞག་སྲུང་ནས་ཉིན་དེ་ལ་དམ་པར་རྩིས་ཤིག 9ཞག་དྲུག་གི་བར་དུ་རང་གི་ལས་དོན་ཚང་མ་བྱེད་ཆོག 10འོན་ཀྱང་ཉིན་ཞག་བདུན་པ་དེ་ནི་ང་ལ་བསྔོ་འབུལ་བྱེད་པའི་ཉལ་གསོའི་ཉི་མ་ཡིན་པས། དེ་ཉིན་ཁྱོད་རང་དང་། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བུ་ཕྲུག་དང་། ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བྲན་གཡོག་ཚོ་དང་། དུད་འགྲོ་དང་། གཞན་ཡང་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ཡུལ་དུ་གནས་སྡོད་བྱ་མཁན་ཕྱི་རྒྱལ་བ་ཚོས་ཀྱང་ལས་གང་ཡང་བྱེད་མི་ཆོག 11གང་ལ་ཟེར་ན། ཉིན་ཞག་དྲུག་གི་བར་དུ་ང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ས་གཞི་དང་། ནམ་མཁའ་དང་རྒྱ་མཚོ་དང་དེའི་ནང་ཡོད་པ་ཚང་མ་བཀོད་དེ། ཉིན་ཞག་བདུན་པར་ངལ་གསོ་བ་ཡིན་པས། དེའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ངལ་གསོ་བའི་ཞག་དེ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རླབས་ཏེ་དམ་པར་བྱས་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།
12ངས་ཁྱོད་ལ་སྟེར་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཡུལ་གྱི་ནང་ཁྱོད་ཚེ་རིང་པོ་གནས་པའི་ཆེད་དུ་རང་གི་ཕ་མ་གཉིས་ལ་གུས་ཞབས་བྱོས་ཤིག
13སྲོག་གཅོད་མ་བྱེད།
14ལོག་གཡེམ་མ་བྱེད།
15རྐུན་མ་མ་རྐུ།
16སུ་ཞིག་ལའང་རྫུན་གྱི་དཔང་པོ་མ་བྱེད་ཅིག
17ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་མི་གཞན་གྱི་ཁང་པའམ། དེའི་ཆུང་མའམ། བྲན་གཡོག་གམ་བྲན་མོ་དང་། དེའི་བ་གླང་དང་བོང་བུ་སོགས་དང་། གཞན་ཡང་ཁོའི་རྒྱུ་དངོས་གང་ཡིན་ལ་འདོད་སེམས་མ་སྐྱེད་ཅིག་ཅེས་བཀའ་གནང་ངོ་༎
Exodus 20:1-17
And God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Exodus 20:1 the original Hebrew text read – דָבַר (dabar) Strong’s Concordance 1696 – God spoke.
What was recorded in Exodus 20 were actual direct divine communication between God and Moses. So Exodus was not man-made laws but God’s words to Man through Moses.
སྡེབ་ཐོན 34:27-28
27གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་མོ་ཤེ་ལ་བཀའ་གནང་བ། ཚིག་འདི་རྣམས་ཡི་གེར་བཀོད་ཅིག། གང་ལ་ཟེར་ན། ཚིག་འདི་རྣམས་ལ་གཞི་བཞག་ནས་ཁྱོད་དང་ཨིསི་རཱཨེལ་གྱི་མི་མང་རྣམས་དང་མཉམ་དུ་དམ་བཅའ་ཞིག་བྱེད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན། 28མོ་ཤེ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་དང་མཉམ་དུ་ཉིན་མཚན་བཞི་བཅུ་གནས་ཤིང་། དེའི་རིང་ལ་བཟའ་འཐུང་སོགས་གང་ཡང་མ་བྱས་སོ། དེ་ནས་ཁོས་རྡོ་ལེབ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་ཐོག་ལ་དམ་བཅའི་ཚིག་འབྲུ་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་བཅུ་ཞེས་པ་དེ་བཀོད་དོ༎
Exodus 34:27-28
27 And the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Words.
The original Hebrew text read – עֲשֶׂ֖רֶת (eseret) הַדְּבָרִֽים׃ (ha-devarim) “the Ten Words” instead of modern English translation of “commandments”. Again the important thing to note is that these are direct divine communication between God and Moses.
These words of God that are recorded in scriptures and teach us the righteousness of God and warn us against sin, they are not man-made ideas but original spoken words of God.
When Jesus appears this is what John testify

1ཐོག་མར་བཀའ་ནི་ཡོད་ཅིང་བཀའ་དེ༌ཉིད།།
དཀོན་མཆོག་ཉིད་དང་ལྷན་ཅིག་ཉིད་དུ༌བཞུགས།།
བཀའ་ཞེས་གྲགས་པ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡིན་ལགས༌ཤིང༌།།
2བཀའ་དང་དཀོན་མཆོག་གདོད་ནས་ལྷན་དུ༌བཞུགས།།
3དེ་ཡང་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྣོད་བཅུད་མ་ལུས༌པ།།
བཀའ་དེ་བརྒྱུད་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཉིད་ཀྱིས༌བསྐྲུན།།
ཁོང་གིས་བཟོས་པའི་དངོས་པོ་མཐའ་དག༌ལས།།
བཀའ་དེ་མ་བརྒྱུད་བསྐྲུན་པ་ཅི་ཡང༌མེད།།
4ཁོང་གི་ནང་དུ་ཚེ་སྲོག་བཞུགས་པ་དང༌།།
ཚེ་སྲོག་དེ་ནི་མི་ཡི་གཟི་འོད་དོ།།
5གཟི་འོད་ཉིད་ནི་མུན་པར་འཕྲོ་བྱེད༌ཀྱང༌།།
མུན་པ་དེ་ལས་རྒྱལ༌བར་མ་གྱུར་ཏོ།།
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Therefore Jesus preached repentance according to God’s truth and call for obedience to God’s word.
Jesus taught obedience to God’s word as key to overcome sin and the devil.
Jesus showed us God’s redemption for Man through obedience to God’s word.
The same John who wrote the Gospel of John also wrote these letters to the believers

5དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་འོད་ཟེར་ཡིན་པས་ཁོང་ལ་མུན་ནག་གཏན་ནས་མེད་དོ།། འདི་ནི་ངེད་ཅག་གིས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་ནས་ཐོས་ཤིང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ལ་སྒྲོག་པའི་བརྡ་འཕྲིན་ཡིན་ནོ།། 6གལ་ཏེ། བདག་ཅག་གིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་དང་འདྲིས་ཡོད་ཟེར་ཡང་། ད་དུང་མུན་ནག་ནང་དུ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིན་ན། དེ་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གིས་རྫུན་སྨྲས་པ་ཡིན་པས་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་བཞིན་དུ་སྤྱད་པ་སྤྱོད་པ་མ་ཡིན། 7དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་འོད་ཟེར་ནང་དུ་བཞུགས་པ་བཞིན། བདག་ཅག་འོད་ཟེར་ནང་དུ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིན་ན། བདག་ཅག་ཕན་ཚུན་ལ་འདྲིས་ཡོད་པ་ཡིན་ལ། ཁོང་གི་སྲས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་སྐུ་ཁྲག་གིས་བདག་ཅག་གི་སྡིག་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་འདག་པར་མཛད༌དོ།།
8བདག་ཅག་གིས་རང་ལ་སྡིག་པ་མེད་ཟེར་ན། དེ་ནི་རང་མགོ་རང་གིས་གཡོག་པ་ཡིན་པས། བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གི་སེམས་སུ་གནས༌པ་མ་ཡིན་ནོ།། 9དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཡིད་རྟོན་རུང་བ་དང་དྲང་བདེན་ཡིན་པས། བདག་ཅག་གིས་རང་གི་སྡིག་པ་མཐོལ་བཤགས་བྱས༌ན། ཁོང་གིས་བདག་ཅག་གི་སྡིག་པ་བསལ་ཞིང་དྲང་བདེན་མ་ཡིན་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་གཙང་མར་མཛད་ངེས་ཡིན། 10བདག་ཅག་གིས་སྡིག་པ་བྱས་མ་མྱོང་ཟེར་ན། བདག་ཅག་གིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཞལ་རྫུན་གསུང་མཁན་དུ་བརྩིས་པས། ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་ཡང་བདག་ཅག་གི་སེམས་སུ་གནས༌པ་མ་ཡིན་ནོ།།

1བདག་གི་བུ་ཕྲུག༌རྣམས། ངས་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ལ་དོན་འདི་རྣམས་འབྲི་དོན་ནི་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་སྡིག་པ་མི་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཡིན། གལ་ཏེ། སུ་ཞིག་གིས་སྡིག་པ་བྱས༌པ་ཡིན་ན། ཡབ་ཀྱི་དྲུང་དུ་བདག་ཅག་ལ་ཞུ་བ་འབུལ་མཁན་ཞིག་ཡོད་དེ། ཁོང་ནི་རྣམ་པར་དག་པ་ཡེ་ཤུ་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ལགས་སོ།། 2ཁོང་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གི་སྡིག་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཉེས་ཆད་བསལ་བའི་མཆོད་རྫས་ཡིན་ཞིང༌། དེ་ནི་བདག་ཅག་ཁོ་ན་མ་ཡིན་པར་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་དོན་དུའང་ཡིན༌ནོ།།
3གལ་ཏེ། བདག་ཅག་གིས་ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་རྣམས་བརྩི་སྲུང་བྱས་པ་ཡིན་ན། ཁོང་ཉིད་དངོས་གནས་ངོ་ཤེས་པ་གསལ་ལོ།། 4གལ་ཏེ། མི་ཞིག་ན་རེ། ངས་ཁོང་ཉིད་ངོ་ཤེས་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་སྨྲས་ཀྱང་ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་རྣམས་མི་བརྩི་ན། མི་དེ་ནི་རྫུན་སྨྲ་མཁན་ཡིན་ལ། བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱང་ཁོའི་སེམས་སུ་ཡོད་པ་མ་ཡིན། 5སུ་ཞིག་གིས་ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་བསྲུངས་ན། དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བྱམས་པ་ནི་ཁོའི་སེམས་ནང་དུ་དངོས་གནས་ཕུལ་དུ་བྱུང་བ༌ཡིན། དོན་འདི་ལས་བདག་ཅག་གིས་རང་ཉིད་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ནང་དུ་གནས་པ་ཤེས་སོ།། 6མི་ཞིག་གིས་བདག་ནི་ཁོང་གི་ནང་དུ་གནས་པ་ཡིན་ཟེར༌ན། མི་དེས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་སྤྱོད་ལམ་བཞིན་དུ་སྤྱོད་འོས༌སོ།།
1 John 1 – 2:1-6
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
To love God means to live in obedience to His words.
To serve and worship God means to obey His words.
Sin is clearly revealed as acts of disobedience against God’s words.
In Genesis we read how the serpent tempted and incited Eve to act against God’s word and both Adam and Eve sinned.
Scripture warns us about temptation to sin, and if and when we yield to temptation and acted and disobeyed God’s word we commit acts of sin.
Therefore scripture do provide clear definition of sin and we are to live in obedience to scripture truth to avoid sin, to repent from sin, and to persevere in our faith in God

Psalm 119:105-112
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.

109 I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.

It is the words of God that teaches us what sin is all about.
It is also the words of God that teaches us to seek the righteousness of God, to repent of our sins, to walk with God though obeying His words and to await our full and complete redemption.
