ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 7:10-13

10འོན་ཀྱང་ཁོང་གི་སྐུ་མཆེད་རྣམས་ཡར་སྤྱིལ་བུའི་དུས་ཆེན་ལ་སོང༌རྗེས། ཁོང་ཉིད་ཡར་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་མ་ཕེབས་པར་གསང་བའི་ཚུལ་གྱིས་ཕེབས་པ་རེད། 11སྤྱིལ་བུའི་དུས་ཆེན་གྱི་སྐབས་སུ་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁོ་རང་གང་དུ་འདུག་ཅེས་ཟེར་ཞིང་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་བཙལ་ཏོ།། 12ཡང་མི་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་ཁྲོད་དུ་ཁོང་གི་སྐོར་ལ་གཏམ་སྣ་ཚོགས་སྨྲས་ཏེ། ལ་ལས་ཁོང་ནི་མི་བཟང་པོ་ཞིག་གོ་ཞེས༌དང༌། ལ་ལས་དེ་འདྲ་ཞིག་མ་ཡིན་པར་མི་མང་པོ་བསླུ་མཁན་ཞིག་ཡིན་ཞེས་པའོ།། 13འོན་ཀྱང་མི་རྣམས་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་རྣམས་ལ་འཇིགས་ཏེ་སུས་ཀྱང་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་སྐོར་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་གླེང་མ་ཕོད༌དོ།།

John 7:10-13

10 But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private. 11 The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?” 12 And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.” 13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.

 

The gospel writer John again highlighted the sharp division among the Jews due to what they perceived of Jesus.

I believe those who said Jesus is a good man had seen His miracles – the sick being healed of their disease, the blind see, and the lame walked – and appreciated His preaching and words of wisdom. But those who think Jesus is leading the people astray most likely were not convinced He is sent of God or rather refused to do obedient to what Jesus was teaching.

Nevertheless, what Jesus had been preaching and teaching did actually caused divisions.

 

How do people feel about Jesus causing division?

 

The same gospel writer introduced Jesus as the Word of God from the start

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 1:1-5

1ཐོག་མར་བཀའ་ནི་ཡོད་ཅིང་བཀའ་དེ༌ཉིད།།

དཀོན་མཆོག་ཉིད་དང་ལྷན་ཅིག་ཉིད་དུ༌བཞུགས།།

བཀའ་ཞེས་གྲགས་པ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡིན་ལགས༌ཤིང༌།།

2བཀའ་དང་དཀོན་མཆོག་གདོད་ནས་ལྷན་དུ༌བཞུགས།།

3དེ་ཡང་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྣོད་བཅུད་མ་ལུས༌པ།།

བཀའ་དེ་བརྒྱུད་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཉིད་ཀྱིས༌བསྐྲུན།།

ཁོང་གིས་བཟོས་པའི་དངོས་པོ་མཐའ་དག༌ལས།།

བཀའ་དེ་མ་བརྒྱུད་བསྐྲུན་པ་ཅི་ཡང༌མེད།།

4ཁོང་གི་ནང་དུ་ཚེ་སྲོག་བཞུགས་པ་དང༌།།

ཚེ་སྲོག་དེ་ནི་མི་ཡི་གཟི་འོད་དོ།།

5གཟི་འོད་ཉིད་ནི་མུན་པར་འཕྲོ་བྱེད༌ཀྱང༌།།

མུན་པ་དེ་ལས་རྒྱལ༌བར་མ་གྱུར་ཏོ།།

 

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

 

What John had written in John 1 correspond with what was recorded in the very first book of the Bible with regards to creation –

 

བཀོད་པ། 1:3-4

3དེ་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། འོད་ཡོད་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག་ཅེས་གསུངས་པ་དང་འོད་བྱུང༌ངོ༌།། 4ཁོང་གིས་འོད་ནི་ལེགས་པར་དགོངས་ཏེ་འོད་དང་མུན་པའི་དབྱེ་བ༌ཕྱེས་སོ།།

Genesis 1:3-4

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness

 

From the start of creation God created division.

Light to be separated from darkness.

We can understand that such division between light and darkness do refer to the separation of righteousness and wickedness. And in John 1, the gospel writer did address the separation and distinction between light and darkness.

Let’s look at another scripture that speaks of light and darkness. Let’s look at 1 John 1:5-10

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་དང་པོ། 1:5-10

5དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་འོད་ཟེར་ཡིན་པས་ཁོང་ལ་མུན་ནག་གཏན་ནས་མེད་དོ།། འདི་ནི་ངེད་ཅག་གིས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་ནས་ཐོས་ཤིང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ལ་སྒྲོག་པའི་བརྡ་འཕྲིན་ཡིན་ནོ།། 6གལ་ཏེ། བདག་ཅག་གིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་དང་འདྲིས་ཡོད་ཟེར་ཡང་། ད་དུང་མུན་ནག་ནང་དུ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིན་ན། དེ་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གིས་རྫུན་སྨྲས་པ་ཡིན་པས་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་བཞིན་དུ་སྤྱད་པ་སྤྱོད་པ་མ་ཡིན། 7དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་འོད་ཟེར་ནང་དུ་བཞུགས་པ་བཞིན་བདག་ཅག་འོད་ཟེར་ནང་དུ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིན་ན། བདག་ཅག་ཕན་ཚུན་ལ་འདྲིས་ཡོད་པ་ཡིན་ལ། ཁོང་གི་སྲས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་སྐུ་ཁྲག་གིས་བདག་ཅག་གི་སྡིག་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་འདག་པར་མཛད༌དོ།།

8བདག་ཅག་གིས་རང་ལ་སྡིག་པ་མེད་ཟེར་ན། དེ་ནི་རང་མགོ་རང་གིས་གཡོག་པ་ཡིན་པས། བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ནི་བདག་ཅག་གི་སེམས་སུ་གནས༌པ་མ་ཡིན་ནོ།། 9དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཡིད་རྟོན་རུང་བ་དང་དྲང་བདེན་ཡིན་པས། བདག་ཅག་གིས་རང་གི་སྡིག་པ་མཐོལ་བཤགས་བྱས༌ན། ཁོང་གིས་བདག་ཅག་གི་སྡིག་པ་བསལ་ཞིང་དྲང་བདེན་མ་ཡིན་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་གཙང་མར་མཛད་ངེས་ཡིན། 10བདག་ཅག་གིས་སྡིག་པ་བྱས་མ་མྱོང་ཟེར་ན། བདག་ཅག་གིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཞལ་རྫུན་གསུང་མཁན་དུ་བརྩིས་པས། ཁོང་གི་བཀའ་ཡང་བདག་ཅག་གི་སེམས་སུ་གནས༌པ་མ་ཡིན་ནོ།།

1 John 1:5-10

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

 

Back to John 7, we can understand that Jesus caused division by exposing the sins of the people and calling for repentance!

Those who obey are separated from those who refused to obey.

Jesus was that light shining in darkness when He went about preaching, teaching, and proclaiming the kingdom of God.

Not everyone agree with what Jesus said and did.

2དུས་དེར་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པའི་སྤྱིལ་བུའི་དུས་ཆེན་ཡང་སླེབས་ལ་ཉེ༌བས། 3ཁོང་གི་སྐུ་མཆེད་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་མཛད་པའི་ངོ་མཚར་བའི་ལས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་རྗེས་འབྲང་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཀྱང་མཐོང་བའི༌ཕྱིར། ཁྱེད་རང་གནས་འདི་དང་ཁ་བྲལ་ནས་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱའི་ཡུལ་དུ་སོང༌དང༌། 4མི་སུས་ཀྱང་རང་གི་སྙན་གྲགས་རྒྱས་འདོད༌ན། དོན་གང་ཡང་ལྐོག་ཏུ་བསྒྲུབ་མི༌འོས། གལ་ཏེ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ལས་འདི་རྣམས་བྱེད༌ན། རང་ཉིད་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་ཀུན་ལ་གསལ་པོར་སྟོན་དགོས་ཞེས་ཞུས་སོ།། 5ཁོང་གི་སྐུ་མཆེད་རྣམས་ཀྱང་ཁོང་ལ་དད་པ་མེད་པས་དེ་ལྟར་སྨྲས༌པ་རེད། 6དེ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་རང་གི་སྐུ་མཆེད་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་དུས་ལ་ནམ་ཡང་ངེས་གཏན་མེད་ཅིང་བདག་གི་དུས་ནི་ད་དུང་སླེབས་མེད། 7འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་རྣམས་བདག་ལ་སྡང་བ་ལས་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ལ་སྡང་མི་སྲིད༌དེ། བདག་གིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ལས་ངན་པ་བྱས་པ་ལ་དཔང་པོ་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་པས༌སོ།། 8ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཡར་སོང་ནས་དུས་ཆེན་ལ་ཞུགས༌དང༌། བདག་གི་དུས་ནི་ད་དུང་མ་སླེབས་པས་ད་ལྟ་ང་རང་ཡར་མི་འགྲོ་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌དང༌། 9སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་སྔར་བཞིན་ག་ལིལ་ཡུལ་དུ་བཞུགས་སོ།།

John 7:2-9

2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For not even his brothers believed in him. 6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.” 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.

 

The Jews’ Feast of Booths is known as Sukkot.

Sukkot is one of the three major feasts of God and this one is observed during autumn. Sukkot starts five days after Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur known as Day of Atonement is when only the appointed High Priest will enter the most holy place of the Temple once a year.

Passover, Pentecost, and Sukkot are the three major feasts of God whereby those who keep covenant with God are required to be gathered in Jerusalem because the Temple, the designated place of worship by God was there.

Passover and Pentecost are observed during spring time.

What happened previously in John 6 was during Passover which was during spring time and now that the Jews’ Feast of Booths is mentioned we know it is autumn.

Apparently Jesus spent His summer in Galilee and according to what is recorded in the Four Gospels, Jesus did have siblings.

Jesus’ brothers, although they did not believe Him in the sense that they may not accept what He had been preaching and teachings, nevertheless they were not as hostile as a particular group of Jews who wanted to kill Him.

So this conversation between Jesus and His siblings was about observing one of the appointed feasts of God when they were supposed to be in Jerusalem.

His brothers might have thought Jesus was another one of those religious fanatics who seek to be famous therefore challenged Him to go to Jerusalem since many people will be there and that He should do His miraculous work and preach there to get more attention.

Jesus said something in response to His brothers that seems somewhat of a mystery, but today we can back to history and we know that Jesus was crucified on Passover and this could be the connection to what Jesus said –

 

6དེ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་རང་གི་སྐུ་མཆེད་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་དུས་ལ་ནམ་ཡང་ངེས་གཏན་མེད་ཅིང་བདག་གི་དུས་ནི་ད་དུང་སླེབས་མེད། 7འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་རྣམས་བདག་ལ་སྡང་བ་ལས་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ལ་སྡང་མི་སྲིད༌དེ། བདག་གིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ལས་ངན་པ་བྱས་པ་ལ་དཔང་པོ་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་པས༌སོ།། 8ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཡར་སོང་ནས་དུས་ཆེན་ལ་ཞུགས༌དང༌། བདག་གི་དུས་ནི་ད་དུང་མ་སླེབས་པས་ད་ལྟ་ང་རང་ཡར་མི་འགྲོ་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌དང༌།

6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.”

 

Jesus knew those who hated Him because His teachings and speeches exposed the corruptions of Man whose hearts and minds turned to follow what is evil.

Scripture truth teaches us the way of God’s righteousness and those who do opposite are turned aside to evil.

Today we live in a world people are often confused between good and evil and struggles to provide convincing definition and to make clear distinction which is which. However, if we look to scripture truth and learn what God have to say and we can accept God’s teachings as the true way of righteousness then we could clearly define what is good, what righteousness is, and what is evil, and we can make well-informed choices.

Back to the situation in John 7, Jesus being a preacher of righteousness was hated by those who do not love the righteousness of God.

Jesus knew His purpose and mission to teach and preach repentance while exposing the sins of this world and He knew how those do not receive His teachings will hate Him and will intend to kill Him.

Jesus was the light shining in darkness while He went about doing good and peached Man should repent and seek forgiveness and redemption in God.

Looking forward to John chapter 13, this disclosed Jesus intention to go to the cross during Passover and not during Sukkot –

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 13:1

པེ་སག་གི་དུས་ཆེན་གྱི་སྔོན༌ལ། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་རང་ཉིད་འཇིག་རྟེན་འདི་དང་ཁ་བྲལ་ནས་ཡབ་ཀྱི་དྲུང་དུ་གཤེགས་དགོས་པའི་དུས་ལ་བབས་པ་མཁྱེན་པ༌དང༌། ཁོང་གིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་རང་ཉིད་ལ་གཏོགས་པའི་རྗེས་འབྲང་པ་རྣམས་ལ་གཏན་དུ་བྱམས་ཤིང་གཅེས་ལ། དུས་མཐའ་མའི་བར་དུའང་བྱམས་པར་མཛད༌དོ།།

John 13:1

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

 

And the apostle Paul who wrote to the Corinthians congregation to rebuke their sins did disclosed what he knew of Christ’s death during Passover –

 

ཀོ་རིན་ཐུ་པ་དང་པོ། 5:7-8

7ཁྱོད་ཅག་ནི་སྐྱུར་རྩི་མེད་པའི་བག་ཕྱེ་གསར་པ་ཞིག་ཏུ་འགྱུར་བའི༌ཕྱིར། སྐྱུར་རྩི་རྙིང་པ་དེ་རྩ་བ་ནས་དོར་ཅིག དོན་དམ་དུ་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ནི་སྐྱུར་རྩི་མེད་པའི་བག་ཕྱེ་ཡིན་ནོ།། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། བདག་ཅག་གི་པེ་སག་དུས་ཆེན་གྱི་མཆོད་པའི་ལུ་གུ༌སྟེ། སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ནི་མཆོད་པར་ཕུལ་ཟིན་པའི་ཕྱིར༌རོ།། 8དེ་བས་བདག་ཅག་དུས་ཆེན་དེ་ལ་རོལ་བ༌ན། སྐྱུར་རྩི་རྙིང་པ་དང་། ངན་སེམས་དང་གདུག་རྩུབ་ཀྱི་སྐྱུར་རྩི་མི་བཀོལ༌བར། ལྷག་བསམ་དང་བདེན་པ་ཡིན་པའི་སྐྱུར་མེད་བག་ལེབ་བཀོལ་ནས་རོལ་དགོས༌སོ།།

1 Corinthians 5:7-8

7 Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

 

Jesus is our Passover Lamb, and His blood is the provision for Man’s atonement to seek reconciliation with God.

Jesus’ message is about trust and obedience, how we should trust and obey God for our redemption, and that all Man should believe and accept Jesus as the Messiah chosen of God to save us from sin and to provide us eternal life in His kingdom.
