To Believe in Jesus – Part 24

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 4:25-38

27དེའི་ཚེ་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཕྱིར་ལོག་པ༌དང་། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་བུད་མེད་ཅིག་ལ་གསུང་གླེང་མཛད་ཀྱིན་ཡོད་པ་མཐོང་སྟེ་ཧ་ལས༌པ་རེད། འོན་ཀྱང་སུས་ཀྱང་ཁོང་ལ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ཅི་དགོངས༌སམ། བུད་མེད་དེ་ལ་གསུང་གླེང་མཛད་དོན་ཅི་ཞེས་འདྲི་མ་ཕོད་དོ།། 28དེ་ནས་བུད་མེད་དེས་རང་གི་ཆུ་ཟོ་བསྐྱུར་ཏེ་གྲོང་རྡལ་དུ་སོང་ནས་མི་རྣམས་ལ་ན༌རེ། 29ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཤོག་དང་། འདིར་མི་ཞིག་ཡོད་པར་ལྟོས་ཤིག དེས་ངས་བྱས་པའི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་རེ་རེ་བཞིན་གསུངས་པས་ཁོ་རང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་སྲིད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 30མི་དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱང་གྲོང་རྡལ་ལས་ཕྱིར་ཐོན་ཏེ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ཆས༌སོ།།

31དེའི་དུས༌སུ། ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། རཱབ་པེ་ལགས། ཞལ་ཟས་བཞེས་རོགས་ཞེས་ནན་གྱིས་ཞུས་ནའང་། 32ཁོང་གིས་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། བདག་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཟས་དེ་ཅི་ཡིན་མི་ཤེས་ཞེས་གསུངས་པས། 33ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཕན་ཚུན་ན༌རེ། ཡང་ན་མི་ཞིག་གིས་ཁོང་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཕུལ་བ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་སྨྲས་སོ།། 34དེ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ང་རང་མངགས་མཁན་གྱི་དགོངས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་དང་ཁོང་གི་ཆོས་དོན་སྒྲུབ་པ་དེ་ནི་བདག་གི་ཁ་ཟས་ཡིན། 35ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ། ཞིང་འབྲེག་པའི་དུས་ལ་ད་དུང་ཟླ་བ་བཞི་ཡོད་ཅེས་ཟེར་བ་མིན༌ནམ། འོན་ཀྱང་བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད་སྨྲ༌སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཞིང་ལ་ལྟོས༌དང༌། ལོ་ཏོག་སྨིན་པར་གྱུར་པས་ཞིང་འབྲེག་རན༌ཏེ། 36ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་ལ་གླ་ཆ་ཐོབ་ཟིན་པ༌དང༌། མཐའ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་སྲོག་གི༌ཆེད་དུ་འབྲས་བུ་བསྡུ་གསོག་བྱེད་བཞིན་ཡོད་ལ། དེ་ནི་ས་བོན་འདེབས་མཁན་དང་ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་གཉིས་ཀ་མཉམ་དུ་དགའ་ཞིང་སྤྲོ་བར་འགྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།། 37ཡང་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ།

མི་དེ་ཡིས་ས་བོན༌བཏབ།།

མི་འདི་ཡིས་འབྲུ་རིགས༌བསྡུས།།

ཞེས་པ་དེ་བདེན༌ནོ།། 38བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་མ་བརྟེན་པ་གང་དེ་བསྡུ་བར་མངགས་པ་ཡིན། མི་གཞན་གྱིས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་བརྟེན་ཅིང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ངལ་བའི་འབྲས་བུ་དེ་ལོངས་སུ་སྤྱད་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།

John 4:27-38

27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

 

This conversation Jesus had with the woman at the well was developing in an interesting manner. Till today this incident still is use as a case study for evangelism.

We know the basis of “believe in Jesus” for salvation, but how do we encourage people to believe in Jesus?

Obviously Jesus was having a fruitful conversation with someone of listening ear and an open heart! So the first step to effective evangelism is look for listening ears and open hearts!

Apparently the timing seems right that after Jesus revealed His identity as Messiah to the woman at the well, His disciples returned and the woman immediately left without further interactions with those Jewish disciples of Jesus!

The writer of John’s Gospel noted the woman left her water pot there by the well as if with intention for Jesus’ disciple to help themselves to a drink or she was in a hurry to leave so as to avoid any interaction with them. Either way her decision to leave was immediate.

Another interesting episode devalued – that she did not go into isolation after being confronted by Jesus about her personal life but she confess her encounter with the Messiah to her neighbors!

We can observe that in the midst of obvious cultural and racial discrimination between Jews and Samaritans, the woman was comfortable talking to Jesus but not His disciples! So was there something about Jesus’ character that makes Him welcoming and approachable to those in needs?

I believe her encounter with Jesus was heartwarming to the extent she passed the good news of meeting the Messiah to her community –

 

28དེ་ནས་བུད་མེད་དེས་རང་གི་ཆུ་ཟོ་བསྐྱུར་ཏེ་གྲོང་རྡལ་དུ་སོང་ནས་མི་རྣམས་ལ་ན༌རེ། 29ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཤོག་དང་། འདིར་མི་ཞིག་ཡོད་པར་ལྟོས་ཤིག དེས་ངས་བྱས་པའི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་རེ་རེ་བཞིན་གསུངས་པས་ཁོ་རང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་སྲིད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 30མི་དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱང་གྲོང་རྡལ་ལས་ཕྱིར་ཐོན་ཏེ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ཆས༌སོ།།

28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

 

It is amazing how Jesus evangelize and how people response.

This woman at the well, apart from the recorded conversation between Jesus and her, we really do not know any more details about her life. And how did the rest of her community react so positively? Were they also waiting eagerly for the Messiah!

Apparently they were waiting for a savior.

May God show us among those yet to hear the Gospel, who among them are of listening ears and open hearts!

To Believe in Jesus – Part 23

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 4:25-26

25ཡང་བུད་མེད་ན༌རེ། ངས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་སྟེ་ཁི་རིའི་སི་ཐོ་ཟེར་བ་དེ་ཕེབས་ངེས་པ་ཤེས༌ལ། ཁོང་ཉིད་ཕེབས་ནས་ངེད་རྣམས་ལ་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་གསུང་བར་འགྱུར་ཞེས་སྨྲས་པ༌ལ། 26སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་གླེང་བཞིན་པའི་མི་དེ་ནི་ང་རང་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།

John 4:25-26

25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

 

For Jesus to reveal His identity to this Samaritan woman, her positive response, and the good news spread to her community, fulfilled prophesies of old that God will extend His mercy and grace to all who are willing to repent and walk in His truth.

Salvation is not limited to Jews only.

Salvation was never based on race or nationality but trust and obedience to God’s truth revealed in scripture.

As Abraham was called of God to be a blessing to the nations, Jesus is the Messiah chosen of God to fulfill and complete God’s will to redeem all man from sin and death.

 

The condition of God’s salvation is trust and obedience.

 

We know that after Jesus’ death and resurrection the good news of Jesus’ redemption spread across the Roman world and many non-Jews received the faith.

Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well validated Peter’s message to mixed multitudes of disciples scattered abroad from the land of Israel due to persecution and warfare –

 

པེ་ཏྲོ་དང་པོ། 2:6-10

6ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། དེ་ལ་གསུང་རབ་ཀྱི་མདོ་ལས་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ། ལྟོས་དང་།

བདག་གིས་ཛ་ཡན་ཡུལ་དུ་རྡོ་ཞིག༌བཞག།

བདམས་པའི་ཟུར་གྱི་རྨང་རྡོ་ནོར་བུ་ཡིན༎

ཁོང་ལ་བརྟེན་ཅིང་དད་པ་བྱེད་མཁན༌ཀུན།།

ཁ་ནི་མི་སྐྱེངས་ངོ་ཡང་མི་གནོང༌ངོ༌།།

ཞེས་གསུངས༌པའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།།

7དེའི༌ཕྱིར། ཁྱོད་ཅག་དད་ལྡན་རྣམས་ལ་མཚོན་ན་ཁོང་ནི་ནོར་བུ་ཞིག་ཡིན༌ལ། དད་པ་མེད་པ་རྣམས་ལ་མཚོན་ན་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ་གསུངས་པ་སྟེ།

བཟོ་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་སྤངས་པའི༌རྡོ།།

ཁང་པའི་ཟུར་གྱི་རྨང་རྡོར༌གྱུར།།

ཞེས་པའོ།། 8ཡང་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ།

དེ་ནི་རྐང་པ་འདྲེད་པའི་རྡོ།།

ས་རུ་སྒྱེལ་བའི་ཕ་བོང་ཡིན།།

ཞེས་གསུངས། ཁོ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བཀའ་དེ་ལ་མི་ཉན་པས་ས་རུ་འགྱེལ། ཁོ་རྣམས་དེ་ལྟར་འགྱེལ་བ་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་སྔར་ནས་ཐག་གིས་བཅད་ཟིན༌ནོ།།

9འོན་ཀྱང་། ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ནི་བདམས་ཟིན་པའི་རིགས་རྒྱུད་དང་། རྒྱལ་རྒྱུད་ཀྱི་མཆོད་དཔོན། མི་རིགས་དམ༌པ། དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་གཏོགས་པའི་མི་བཅས་ཡིན་ཏེ། དེ་ནི་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་མུན་ནག་ལས་ཁོང་གི་ངོ་མཚར་ཆེ་བའི་འོད་ཟེར་ནང་དུ་ཞལ་འབོད་གནང་མཁན་ཁོང་གི་འཕྲིན་ལས་སྒྲོག་པའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།། 10སྔོན་ཆད་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ནི་འབངས་མི་མིན་མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་ད་ལྟ་ཁྱོད་ཅག་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་འབངས་མི་ཡིན། སྔོན་ཆད་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་མ་ཐོབ༌མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་ད་ལྟ་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཐོབ་ཟིན༌ནོ།།

1 Peter 2:6-10

6 For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

8 and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

 

By this time of Peter’s message the Christian fellowship scattered abroad were of mixed multitudes.

The Roman Empire was known for their mixed race and culture and Christian fellowships during this period of time were already flourishing with both Jews and Gentiles and non-Jews increasing more and more in numbers.

A congregation of mixed races and nationality is a witness to God’s extension of grace and mercy to all and anyone who is willing to trust and obey.

The Samaritans who were rejected by the Jews, who rejected Jesus, became the example of trust and obedience to full redemption.  And this incident at the well had inspired many to believe in Jesus!

Paul also explained of God’s salvation to Gentiles –

 

རོ་མཱ་པ། 9:24-26

24སྣོད་ཆས་དེ་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་ཙམ་མ༌ཟད། ཕྱི་ཕྱོགས་ཀྱི་མི་རིགས་དག་ལས་བདག་ཅག་ལ་ཞལ་འབོད་གནང་བ་ཡིན༌པས། དེ་ལ་མི་རུང་བ་ཅི་ཡོད་དམ་ཞེ༌ན། 25དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཧོ་ཤེ་ཨ་ཡི་མདོ་ལས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ།

གཞི་ནས་བདག་གི་མི་སྡེ་མིན༌པ་རྣམས།།

བདག་གི་མི་སྡེ་ཡིན་ཞེས་བདག་གིས༌སྒྲོག །

གཞི་ནས་བརྩེ་བ་མེད་པའི་ཁོ་མོ༌ལ།།

བདག་གིས་བརྩེ་བས་སྐྱོང་ཞེས་བདག་ནི༌སྨྲ།།

26ཁྱོད་རྣམས་བདག་གི་མི་སྡེ་མ་ཡིན༌ཞེས།།

སྔོན་ཆད་ཡུལ་སྡེ་གང་ནས་སྨྲས་གྱུར་ན།།

རྟག་བརྟན་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་གི་བུ་ཡིན༌ཞེས།།

མ་འོངས་པར་ཡང་ཡུལ་དེར་དེ་ལྟར༌སྨྲ།།

ཞེས༌པའོ།།

Romans 9:24-26

24 even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles? 25 As indeed he says in Hosea, “Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”

26 “And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’”

 

To believe in Jesus is the path to becoming sons of God being part of God’s family.

Although Israel was called of God but those Jews who rejected Jesus risk forfeiting their position of being sons of God and by contrast Gentiles who were not initially chosen based on that covenant with Moses are now received into the kingdom of God through trust and obedience in Jesus the Messiah chosen of God.

Moses was a highly respected servant of God but he points to the coming Messiah!

The Gospel of John served to identify Jesus and the true Messiah chosen of God.
