Pilgrims in Christ – Part 11

What we can learn from the letters of Peter about practice of faith in Christ in times of uncertainty.

པེ་ཏྲོ་དང་པོ། 2:11-12

11 གཅེས་པའི་སྤུན་ཟླ་རྣམས། ཁྱེད་ཚོ་གནས་གཡར་བ་དང་ངོ་མི་ཤེས་པ་ལྟར་འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིར་སྡོད་པས། ངས་ཁྱེད་ཚོའི་སེམས་ཉིད་ལ་རྒོལ་བའི་འདོད་ཆགས་སྤོང་བར་སྐུལ།

12 དད་མེད་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཁྲོད་དུ་སྤྱོད་ལམ་བཟང་པོ་བྱོས་ཤིག དེ་ནས་ཁོ་ཚོས་ཁྱེད་རྣམས་ངན་པ་བྱེད་མཁན་ཡིན་ཞེས་ཟེར་ཡང༌། ཁྱེད་ཚོའི་སྤྱོད་ལམ་བཟང་པོ་མཐོང་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་འབྱོན་པའི་ཉིན་མོར་ཁོ་ཚོས་ཁོང་ལ་བསྟོད་བསྔགས་བྱེད་པར་འགྱུར།

 

1 Peter 2:11-12

11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

 

Peter reminded us disciples we are “sojourners and exiles“. This is a good message to help us focus on our future eternal life with God in His kingdom.

We are living in a world where people everywhere are under pressure every day to conform and flow with the ways and systems of the world’s economic operations and people are being slave to it with no hope of eternal life.

Everything of this material world will end. But our hope and future is in the living words of God which is of eternal value.

There are people in this world who work hard for a living but we need the words of God to help keep us in the way of righteousness and truth that pleases God.

Peter warned against “the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul” with references to human desires and expectations that transgress the words and will of God.

The words and promises of God are to help us walk the path of redemption and that we will find our ultimate eternal rest in God. Therefore we need to be careful of the systems and operations of this world that work against the will of God and rob us of our eternal blessing in Christ.

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་དང་པོ། 2:15-17

15འཇིག་རྟེན་འདི་དང་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་དངོས་པོ་ཀུན་ལ་ཞེན་ཆགས༌པར་མི་བྱའོ། །གལ་ཏེ། མི་སུ་ཞིག་འཇིག་རྟེན་ལ་ཞེན་ཆགས་པར་གྱུར་ན། མི་དེའི་སེམས་སུ་ཡབ་ལ་གཅེས་པའི་སེམས་ནི་ཡོད་པ་མ་ཡིན་ནོ།། 16ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་དེ། ཤ་གཟུགས་ཀྱི་འདོད་ཆགས་དང་། མིག་གི་འདོད༌ཆགས། ཚེ་འདིའི་ང་རྒྱལ་བཅས་ནི་ཡབ་ནས་བྱུང་བ་མ་ཡིན་པར་འཇིག་རྟེན་ནས་བྱུང་བའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།། 17འཇིག་རྟེན་འདི་དང་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་འདོད་ཆགས་ཐམས་ཅད་འཇིག་པར་འགྱུར༌མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་དགོངས་བཞིན་སྒྲུབ་མཁན་ནི་གཏན་དུ་གནས་པར་འགྱུར་རོ།།

 

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

 

The difference and distinction as how we live as compared to the system of this world is an expression of our love and faithfulness to God who redeemed us from sin and death through the blood of Jesus the Christ. We are no longer slave to the system of this world that offers no hope of eternal life.

We need to be careful of deceptions of this world tied to material abundances but of no eternal values. The passions and desires of this world will influences human practices and activities leading people away from the true eternal blessings of God.

We look forward to our ultimate unity with Christ and the full glory of God’s kingdom be revealed.
