What we can learn from the letters of Peter about practice of faith in Christ in times of uncertainty.

 

པེ་ཏྲོ་གཉིས་པ། 3:1-3

1 གཅེས་པའི་སྤུན་ཟླ་རྣམས། འདི་ནི་ངས་ཁྱེད་རྣམས་ལ་བྲིས་པའི་འཕྲིན་ཡིག་གཉིས་པ་ཡིན་ཞིང༌། འཕྲིན་ཡིག་གཉིས་ཀའི་ནང་དོན་ནི་ངས་འབད་པས་ཁྱེད་ཚོར་སེམས་དྲང་པོ་སྐྱེད་དུ་བཅུག་པར་དྲན་སྐུལ་བྱེད་ཆེད་ཡིན།

2 ལུང་སྟོན་པ་དམ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་སྔར་གསུངས་པའི་བཀའ་དང༌། གཙོ་བོ་དང་སྐྱབས་མགོན་གྱིས་སྐུ་ཚབ་རྣམས་བརྒྱུད་ནས་གནང་བའི་གསུང་དེ་ངས་ཁྱེད་ཚོས་དྲན་པར་འདོད།

3 དང་པོར་འདི་ཤེས་པར་གྱིས་ཤིག དུས་མཐའ་མ་ལ་བདེན་པར་འཕྱ་སྨོད་བྱེད་མཁན་འབྱུང་བར་འགྱུར། སྨད་ར་གཏོང་ཞིང་རང་གི་འདོད་ཆགས་བཞིན་དུ་སྤྱོད་པར་བྱེད་དེ།

 

2 Peter 3:1-3

This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires

 

Peter continues his warnings against straying from our faith in Christ due to misleading and deceptive message by those preachers and leaders who refused to fear God’s judgement.

Godly teachings of Jesus and His apostles are worth repeating and thus Peter boldly proclaim his intention to repeat and remind the disciples of what is truth revealed in scripture and what we should continue to believe as the commandments of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Peter foresaw the persecution and testing times ahead for the disciples.

What make these misleading characters problematic for the sheep are that they may not be openly against Christians values or traditions that had been handed down to the various local churches but to put forward certain teachings of God as “already past” and no more necessary for “current generation”.

Among the most controversial teachings that have plagued the churches till today is the swing of opinions for moral values to be accepted as “personal preference” as against God’s absolute moral laws revealed in scripture which will not change regardless of which time of human civilization we are in.

In our societies today, worldwide, there is the gaining of movement to highlight sexual morality as “personal” and to marginalize God’s commandment as standard for all. Too many have been led astray by such swing of opinions.

 

Peter pointed out a key fundamental flaw of these misleading characters as “following their own sinful desires” and that leads to prioritizing self-interest above the will and teachings of God.

People who are deceived may not see the long term ultimate goals of these false prophets and teachers to “trash bin” the laws and commandments of God that teaches us to fear God and seek true redemption in Christ!

 

Disciples who are struggling with following Christ through “dying to the flesh” and dealing with sins are easily deceived and led astray.

Therefore it is so important to help disciples develop a lifestyle of consistent learning and study of scripture and knowing how to depend on the Holy Spirit to grow in Christ as what is actually being taught in scripture

For example the apostle Paul had a very excellent message about depending on the power of the Holy Spirit in dealing with sinful desires of the flesh

ང་ཚོའང་སྔོན་མ་གླེན་པ་དང༌།

ཁ་ལ་མི་ཉན་པ།

མགོ་འཁོར་བ།

འདོད་ཆགས་ལ་གཡོག་བྱེད་པ།

ཕྲག་དོག་བྱེད་མཁན་ཡིན།

དུས་དེར་གཞན་གྱིས་ང་ཚོར་སྡང་བར་བྱེད་ལ་ང་ཚོས་གཞན་ལའང་སྡང་བར་བྱེད།

4 འོན་ཀྱང་ང་ཚོའི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་རྗེ་དང་བྱམས་པ་མངོན་པར་གྱུར་སྐབས།

5 ང་ཚོའི་དགེ་བའི་ལས་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་མ་ཡིན་པར།

ཁོང་རང་གི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ཐོག་ནས་གསར་དུ་སྐྱེ་བའི་ཁྲུད་པ་དང་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གསར་དུ་མཛད་པ་བརྒྱུད་ནས་ཁོང་གིས་ང་ཚོ་སྐྱབས་པར་མཛད།

6 ང་ཚོའི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་བརྒྱུད་ནས་ཁོང་གིས་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ང་ཚོར་ལྷག་པར་གནང་བ་ཡིན་ཏེ།

7 ཁོང་གི་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཡི་སྒོ་ནས་ང་ཚོ་ཡང་དག་པར་གྱུར་བ་དང༌།

ང་ཚོ་དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་ཡི་རེ་བ་ཡོད་པའི་ཤུལ་འཛིན་མཁན་དུ་འགྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར་རོ། །

8 དོན་འདི་རྣམས་བདེན་པ་ཡིན་པས་ངའི་རེ་བར་ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་ཡིད་རྟོན་ནས་སྒྲོག་པར་བྱེད།

དེ་ནས་དད་ལྡན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ལས་བཟང་པོར་འབད་རྩོལ་བྱེད།

དོན་འདི་ཚོ་བཟང་པོ་དང་མི་རྣམས་ལ་ཕན་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཡིན།

 

Titus 3:3-8

3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

 

The godly way to deal with sinful desires of the flesh is not to reject the truth and judgement of God! But to embrace the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit in us to conform to the ways and example of Jesus.

The point of contention for these misleading personalities is in the rejection of God’s standard of judgment as revealed in scripture!

We need to use scripture truth and what God revealed as His teachings as our human moral compass.

It is shocking and horrifying to know when prominent Christian denominational leaders are on the forefront to “trash bin” the laws and commandments of God’s moral standard and that has led to current state of confusion and bitter dispute among Christians of different camps.

When pagan reject the teachings of God that is not surprising, but when church leaderships replace God’s moral standard with human preference we are heading to what Jesus warned us about the days of Noah

 

མད་ཐཱ། 24:38-39

38 གང་ལགས་ཤེ་ན། དུས་དེར་ཆུ་ལོག་མ་འབྱུང་བའི་སྔོན་ལ། ནོ་ཨ་ཁོང་གྲུ་ཆེན་གྱི་ནང་དུ་མ་ཞུགས་པའི་བར་དུ་དེ་ཚོས་བཟའ་འཐུང་བྱེད་ཅིང༌། བག་མ་གཏོང་ལེན་བྱེད་བཞིན་ཡོད།

39 ཆུ་ལོག་གིས་དེ་ཚོ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཕར་འཁྱེར་བའི་བར་དེ་ཚོས་མ་རྟོགས། མིའི་རིགས་ཀྱི་བུའི་འབྱོན་པ་དེ་ཡང་དེ་ལྟར་ཡིན་པར་འགྱུར།

 

Matthew 24:38-39

38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

 

བཀོད་པ 6:5-8

5འཛམ་གླིང་ནང་མིའི་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལས་ངན་དང་། རྟག་ཏུ་ངན་སེམས་ཀྱི་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡོད་པ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་གཟིགས་ཏེ།

6ཁོང་གིས་ས་གཞི་རུ་མིའི་རིགས་མཛད་པའི་ཕྱག་ལས་ལ་ཤིན་ཏུ་འགྱོད་དོ།

7དེ་ནས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་གསུངས་པ་། མིའི་རིགས་དང་དུད་འགྲོ་དང་། བྱ་བྱིའུ་ལ་སོགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ངས་བཟོས་པས། ད་ངའི་སེམས་ཤིན་ཏུ་འགྱོད་པའི་རྐྱེན་དེ་རྣམས་ངས་འཛམ་གླིང་ནས་མེད་པར་བཟོ་བར་བྱའོ།

8འོན་ཀྱང་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ནོ་ཨ་ལ་ཐུགས་དགྱེས་སོ༎

 

Genesis 6:5-8

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

 

How did Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord?

Noah believed in God’s judgement and prepared himself.
