To Believe in Jesus – Part 19

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 4:19-24

19བུད་མེད་ན༌རེ། ཇོ་བོ་ལགས། བདག་གིས་ཁྱེད་རང་ནི་ལུང་སྟོན་པ་ཞིག་ཡིན་པ་ཤེས། 20ངེད་ཅག་གི་ཕ་མེས་ཀྱིས་རི་བོ་འདིའི་སྟེང་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱས་པ༌ཡིན། འོན་ཀྱང་། ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་དགོས་ཟེར་བའི་གནས་ནི་ཡེ་རུ་སཱ་ལེམ་ཡིན་ཞེས་སྨྲས་སོ།། 21ཡང་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། བུད་མེད་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་བདག་ལ་ཡིད་ཆེས་པར༌གྱིས། རི་བོ་འདི་དང་ཡེ་རུ་སཱ་ལེམ་གང་ཡང་མ་ཡིན༌པར། ཡབ་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པའི་དུས་ཤིག་སླེབ་པར་འགྱུར། 22ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུས་མེད་པ་དེ་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པ༌དང༌། ངེད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུས་ཡོད་པ་དེ་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན༌ཏེ། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། ཐར་པ་ནི་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བ་ཡིན། 23འོན་ཀྱང་། ཡབ་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པའི་དུས་ཤིག་སླེབ་ངེས་ཤིང་ད་ལྟའི་དུས༌ཡིན་ཏེ། བསྙེན་བཀུར་རྣམ་དག་བྱེད་མཁན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཡབ་ལ་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་དང་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་པར་འགྱུར་རོ།། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། ཡབ་ཀྱིས་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་མཁན་མི་དེ་ལྟ་བུ་རྣམས་འཚོལ་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཡིན། 24དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཡིན་པས་ཁོང་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་མཁན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་དང་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་དགོས་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།།

 

John 4:19-24

19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

 

Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well switch focuses from living water to worship.

Most Christians today would think of worship in church services with music and singing. Perhaps that has been what institutional churches made it out to be.

 

But how would Jesus define worship?

 

It there anyway we could find out or understand what Jesus intended to mean when He speaks of worship with the woman at the well?

 

24དཀོན་མཆོག་ནི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཡིན་པས་ཁོང་ལ་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་མཁན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་དང་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་སྒོ་ནས་བསྙེན་བཀུར་བྱེད་དགོས་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།།

24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

 

That was how Jesus defines worship.

But how do we interpret and apply?

Perhaps the most appropriate answer that could appeal across various denominations and theology is found in the writings of Paul

 

རོ་མཱ་པ། 12:1-2

1སྤུན་ཟླ༌རྣམས། དེ་ལྟར་ཡིན་པས། ངས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་བསྐུལ་བར་བྱ༌སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་རང་གི་ལུས་པོ་ནི་གསོན་མཆོད་དུ་ཕུལ༌ཞིག དེ་ནི་དམ་པ་ཡིན་ཞིང་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཐུགས་མཉེས༌པ་དང་། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་སེམས་ཉིད་ཀྱི་བསྙེན་བཀུར་ཡིན་ནོ།། 2དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་ཐུགས་དགོངས་བཟང་པོ༌དང༌། ཡིད་དུ་འོང༌བ། ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ་བཅས་རྟོགས་པའི༌ཕྱིར། འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་ལུགས་བཞིན་མི་བྱེད་པར། སེམས་གསར་པར་བསྒྱུར་པ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་གཤིས་སྤྱོད་ཀྱང་སྒྱུར་ཅིག

 

Romans 12:1-2

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

 

Paul’s explanation in Romans 12:1-2 ties in very well with what Jesus said in John 4:24

When we want to worship God we want to relate to God. And scripture truth have been consistent in pointing out the way to relate to God is to obey His words His teachings and that will means sacrifices of our time, resources and even our-self.

Perhaps the sacrifice of self is the most difficult part! Because that often clashed with our human acts of sin which is what Jesus wanted to deal with.

 

Jesus’ death and resurrection is to deal with sin and death.

 

So with the conversation with the woman at the well, the call to worship is the call to sacrifice of self to obey God and to turn away from sin.

With that understanding we could appreciate a difficult message by this prophet of old Habakkuk

 

ཧ་བཱ་ཁུག 3:17-18

17སེ་ཡབ་ཤིང་ལ་མྱུ་གུ་མ་འབུས་ཤིང་། རྒུན་འབྲུམ་ཤིང་ལ་འབྲས་བུ་མ་ཐོགས་པ་དང་། སྐྱུ་རུ་ཤིང་ལས་ཅི་ཡང་མ་ཐོན་པར། ཞིང་ལས་ལོ་ཏོག་ཅི་ཡང་མ་སྨིན་ལ། ལུག་རའི་ལུག་རྣམས་ཚར་དུ་བཅད་ནས་ནི། ཕྱུགས་རའི་ནང་དུ་བ་གླང་ཚར་ནའང་། 18ང་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཡ་ཝཱེའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་དགའ་ཞིང་། རང་ཉིད་སྐྱོབ་པའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་དབང་གིས་སྤྲོ་བར་འགྱུར།

 

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

 

How could a person find joy in God in distressful time?

When we make the decision to sacrifice our-self, do away with our own sinful desire, do away with our ignorance of God’s will, and make a strong will to serve God and to worship God!

With that attitude we could overcome difficult circumstances

 

གསུང་མགུར། 63:1

1༼དཱ་བིད་ཀྱིས་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱའི་དབེན་སྟོང་དུ་བརྩམས་པའི་མགུར༌མ།༽ ཀྱེ་ཀྱེ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁྱེད་ངའི་དཀོན་མཆོག༌ཡིན། །བདག་གིས་སྙིང་རུས་བསྐྱེད་ནས་ཁྱེད་རང༌བཙལ། །ས་ཆ་སྐམ་ཞིང་ཉམ་ཐག་ཆུ་མེད༌སར། །བདག་གི་ལུས་སེམས་གཉིས་ཀ་ཁྱེད་ལ༌གདུང༌།།

 

Psalm 63:1

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
