To Believe in Jesus – Part 28

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 4:31-38

31དེའི་དུས༌སུ། ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། རཱབ་པེ་ལགས། ཞལ་ཟས་བཞེས་རོགས་ཞེས་ནན་གྱིས་ཞུས་ནའང་། 32ཁོང་གིས་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། བདག་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཡོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཟས་དེ་ཅི་ཡིན་མི་ཤེས་ཞེས་གསུངས་པས། 33ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཕན་ཚུན་ན༌རེ། ཡང་ན་མི་ཞིག་གིས་ཁོང་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཕུལ་བ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་སྨྲས་སོ།། 34དེ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ང་རང་མངགས་མཁན་གྱི་དགོངས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་བྱེད་པ་དང་ཁོང་གི་ཆོས་དོན་སྒྲུབ་པ་དེ་ནི་བདག་གི་ཁ་ཟས་ཡིན། 35ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ། ཞིང་འབྲེག་པའི་དུས་ལ་ད་དུང་ཟླ་བ་བཞི་ཡོད་ཅེས་ཟེར་བ་མིན༌ནམ། འོན་ཀྱང་བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་འདི་སྐད་སྨྲ༌སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཞིང་ལ་ལྟོས༌དང༌། ལོ་ཏོག་སྨིན་པར་གྱུར་པས་ཞིང་འབྲེག་རན༌ཏེ། 36ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་ལ་གླ་ཆ་ཐོབ་ཟིན་པ༌དང༌། མཐའ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་སྲོག་གི༌ཆེད་དུ་འབྲས་བུ་བསྡུ་གསོག་བྱེད་བཞིན་ཡོད་ལ། དེ་ནི་ས་བོན་འདེབས་མཁན་དང་ཞིང་འབྲེག་མཁན་གཉིས་ཀ་མཉམ་དུ་དགའ་ཞིང་སྤྲོ་བར་འགྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར་རོ།། 37ཡང་ཁ་དཔེ༌ལ།

མི་དེ་ཡིས་ས་བོན༌བཏབ།།

མི་འདི་ཡིས་འབྲུ་རིགས༌བསྡུས།།

ཞེས་པ་དེ་བདེན༌ནོ།། 38བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་མ་བརྟེན་པ་གང་དེ་བསྡུ་བར་མངགས་པ་ཡིན། མི་གཞན་གྱིས་ངལ་བའི་ལས་ལ་བརྟེན་ཅིང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ངལ་བའི་འབྲས་བུ་དེ་ལོངས་སུ་སྤྱད་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།

John 4:31-38

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

 

The disciples came back to Jesus with food and expecting their master to enjoy a meal together but they received a puzzling response which they had a hard time trying to figure out what happened.

Jesus may have spoken something that was very difficult for the disciples to connect at that moment but as they continued with Jesus in His public ministry this subject about “food” and “doing the will of God” surfaced again –

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 6:22-27

22དེའི་ཕྱི༌ཉིན། མཚོའི་ཕར་འགྲམ་དུ་བསྡད་ཡོད་པའི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་སྔོན་རོལ་དུ་གནས་དེར་གྲུ་ཆུང་གཅིག་ལས་གཞན་མེད་པ༌དང༌། མཚོ་གྲུ་དེའི་ནང་དུ་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ལས༌གཞན། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་བཞུགས་མེད་པ་དང་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་སོང་ཟིན་པ་ཤེས༌པ་རེད། 23དེ་ནས་མཚོ་གྲུ་འགའ་ཞིག་ཐེ་པེར་ཡཱ་ཡུལ་ཕྱོགས་ནས་སླེབས་ཏེ། སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་བཀའ་དྲིན་ཞུས་ནས་བག་ལེབ་བགོས་པའི་གནས་དེ་དང་ཉེ་བར་བཅར་བ༌ན། 24མི་ཚོགས་ཀྱིས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་དང་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་མ་མཐོང༌བས། མཚོ་གྲུ་དེ་དག་ལ་བསྡད་ནས་ཀཱ་ཕར་ན་ཧུམ་དུ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུ་འཚོལ་དུ་ཕྱིན༌ཏོ།།

25དེ་ནས་མི་ཚོགས་མཚོའི་ཕར་འགྲམ་ནས་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུར་མཇལ༌ཏེ། རཱབ་པེ་ལགས། ཁྱེད་རང་དུས་ག་ཚོད་འདིར་ཕེབས་པ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་ཞུས་པ༌ལ། 26སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། བདག་གིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཡང་དག་པར་བདེན་པར་སྨྲ༌སྟེ། ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ང་རང་འཚོལ་དོན་ནི་གྲུབ་རྟགས་རྣམས་མཐོང་བ་མ་ཡིན་པར་བག་ལེབ་ཟོས་ནས་ལྟོ་བ་འགྲངས་པའི་ཕྱིར༌རོ།། 27ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་མི་རྟག་པའི་ཁ་ཟས་ཀྱི་དོན་དུ་འབད་པ་མི་བྱེད༌པར། མཐའ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་སྲོག་འཐོབ་པའི་བར་དུ་གནས་པའི་ཁ་ཟས་དེའི་དོན་དུ་བརྩོན་པར༌གྱིས། མིའི་བུ་ཡིས་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་དེ་གནང་ངེས་ཡིན། མིའི་བུ་ལ་ཡབ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་བཏབ་ཡོད་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།།

John 6:22-27

22 On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”

 

The message of John 4 and John 6 do have a common reference to God’s gift of eternal life.

The woman at the well was offered “living water” which points to the richness and blessing of eternal life with God, and likewise the crowd that came seeking Jesus in John 6 was offered the gift of eternal life through the “Son of Man” which is pointing to the Messiah chosen of God.

In John 6 the crowd came seeking Jesus because they were hungry and in need of food. During the days of Jesus there were many suffering from poverty due to war and conflicts and political instability of that time. Just about 150 years before the appearing of Christ, Israel went through bloody civil war and with foreign powers as recorded in the Maccabean Revolt. Although at the time of Jesus the Jews were under Roman rule and had some stability, majority of the population were still devastated and trying to recover from the aftermath of war and conflict.

In John 6 the crowd also had difficulty understanding what Jesus said, as with the disciples. But eventually the disciples understood what Jesus said about “food” and “to do the will of God”. Peter understood that to means to preach and teach the truth of God’s word that those who hear and believe might find salvation in the Messiah –

 

མཛད་འཕྲིན། 6:1-2

1དེའི་དུས༌སུ། རྗེས་འབྲང་པ་མང་དུ་འཕེལ་བ༌ན། གྷི་རིག་པའི་སྐད་རིགས་སྨྲ་མཁན་གྱི་ཨིབ་རི་པས་ནི་ཨིབ་རིའི་མི་རིགས་རང་གི་སྐད་སྨྲ་མཁན་ལ་སྨྲེ་ངག་བཏོན་ནོ།། རྒྱུ་མཚན་ནི་ཉིན་རེ་བཞིན་བགོ་སྐལ་གནང་སྐབས་ཨིབ་རི་པའི་ཡུགས་མོ་རྣམས་སྣང་མེད་དུ་བསྐྱུར་བའི་ཕྱིར༌ཡིན། 2དེ་ནས་སྐུ་ཚབ་པ་བཅུ་གཉིས་པོས་ཆོས་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་རྗེས་འབྲང་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་བོས་ཏེ་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ངེད་ཅག་གིས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཀའ་བསྐྱུར་ནས་ཟས་སྐལ་གཉེར་པ་ནི་མི་འོས་སོ།།

Acts 6:1-2

Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables.

 

There at the times of Acts, the apostles led by Peter encountered a similar situation when the believers gathered together ran into problems of food distributions and supplies. People were hungry and they needed food.

Although the basic needs of these people are to be met but the apostles of Jesus must give attention to higher priority – to preach and teach the words of God!

I think Peter remembers the incident back in John 4 when Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well.

In John 4, this incident at the well, Jesus had used it as practical lesson for outreach to the lost and needy. And apparently when the disciples saw how the Samaritans responded positively they were convinced “it’s really harvest time”.

 

To believe in Jesus will encourage us to believe in the will of God
