ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 5:30-38

30 ཡེ་ཤུས་ “ཡབ་ལ་མ་བརྟེན་པར་ངས་ཅིའང་བྱེད་མི་སྲིད་དེ། ཡབ་ཀྱི་བཀའ་ཇི་ལྟར་ཐོས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་ཁྲིམས་གཅོད་བྱེད། དེའི་ཕྱིར་ངའི་ཁྲིམས་ཆད་དེ་དྲང་པོ་ཡིན། གང་ལགས་ཟེར་ན། ངས་རང་གི་བསམ་ཚུལ་བཞིན་དུ་མི་བྱེད་དེ། ང་མངགས་མཁན་གྱི་དགོངས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་བྱེད།

31ཡང་འདི་སྐད་དུ། གལ་ཏེ་ངས་རང་གིས་རང་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་ན་བདག་གི་དཔང་པོ་དེ་ནི་བདེན་པ་མ་ཡིན། 32བདག་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་མཛད་མཁན་གཞན་ཞིག་ཡོད་ཅིང་བདག་གིས་ཀྱང་ཁོང་གིས་བདེན་དཔང་མཛད་པ་དེ་བདེན་པ་ཡིན་པར་རྟོགས་སོ།། 33གཞན༌ཡང༌། ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་དྲུང་དུ་མི་འགའ་ཞིག་མངགས་མྱོང༌ཞིང༌། ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱིས་ཀྱང་བདེན་པ་ཉིད་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་པ་ཡིན། 34དོན་དམ་དུ་བདག་ལ་འཐོབ་པའི་བདེན་དཔང་ནི་མི་ཡི་རིགས་ལས་འཐོབ་པ་མ་ཡིན་ཡང་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་སྐྱོབ་པའི་ཆེད༌དུ་བདག་གིས་གཏམ་འདི་རྣམས་སྨྲས༌པ་ཡིན། 35ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་ནི་འབར་ཞིང་འོད་སྣང་འཕྲོ་བའི་སྒྲོན་མེ་ཞིག་དང་མཚུངས༌ཤིང༌། ཁྱོད་རྣམས་རེ་ཞིག་ཁོང་གི་སྒྲོན་མེའི་འོད་སྣང་ལ་རང་གི་མོས་པ་བཞིན་དུ་དགའ་བར་བྱེད༌དོ།།

36འོན་ཀྱང་བདག་ལ་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་བདེན་དཔང་ལས་ཀྱང་ཆེ་བའི་བདེན་དཔང་ཞིག་ཡོད༌དེ། ཡབ་ཀྱིས་བདག་ལ་བསྒྲུབ་པར་བཅོལ་བའི་དོན་རྣམས་ནི་བདག་གིས་སྒྲུབ་བཞིན་པའི་ལས་ཡིན༌ལ། ལས་འདི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བདག་ནི་ཡབ་ཀྱིས་མངགས་པ་ཡིན་པར་བདེན་དཔང་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།།

37ང་རང་མངགས་མཁན་ཡབ་ཀྱིས་ཀྱང་བདག་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་མཛད༌པ་ཡིན། ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁོང་གི་གསུང་སྐད་ནམ་ཡང་ཐོས་པ་མེད་ཅིང་ཁོང་གི་གཟུགས་བརྙན་ཡང་མཐོང་བ་མེད། 38ཁོང་གིས་མངགས་པ་དེ་ལ་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་དད་པ་མི་བྱེད༌པས། ཡབ་ཀྱི་བཀའ་ཡང་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་སེམས་ཁོང་དུ་མི་གནས་སོ།།

John 5:30-38

30 “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 31 If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true. 33 You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36 But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, 38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.

 

What Jesus said here may appear complicated but a key point of this message is about trust and obedience to His Father in heaven.

Previous post we discussed about the subject of life and death because Jesus said of Himself having received authority of the Father to judge and there will be judgement after death. For those who do not believe in judgement after death, what Jesus said would be shocking difficult inconvenient truth!

Today we have the benefits of hindsight, we know Jesus’ death and resurrection had already happened, and Jesus is the Messiah chosen of God, and furthermore Jesus had been given authority of the Father to judge the living and the dead.

The Father Jesus spoke of is referring to the God of Israel named Yahweh who appeared to Moses on Mount Sinai. That was why Jesus said to those Jews He was speaking to “His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen” and they knew Jesus was speaking of Moses’ encounter with God on Mount Sinai.

Some of those Jews who heard Jesus do not agree with what He said mainly because of what they had been taught by their synagogue leaders the Pharisees.

Furthermore, the Sanhedrin, the Jewish Council, had their perspectives and doctrines about God and how to worship God. And as a general observation, what these religious and community leaderships had been teaching their Jewish folks about how to worship God had become commonly known as traditions of the elders or in their Jewish language Halakha (Jewish religious laws and practices).

From this conversation in John 5, between Jesus and the Jews, the basis of contentions seems to be of whose teachings should be recognized as the authority. What Jesus was teaching and preaching had directly challenged the established position of the Sanhedrin and the Pharisees.

Jesus in this context points to John the Baptist whom they respected as being sent of God. And they knew John the Baptist pointed out to them Jesus is of higher authority –

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 1:19-28

19དེ་ཡང་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱིས་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་པའི་ཚིག་ནི་འདི་ལྟ༌སྟེ། ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཡེ་རུ་སཱ་ལེམ་ནས་མཆོད་དཔོན་དང་ལེ་ཝི་པ་རྣམས་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་དྲུང་དུ་མངགས༌ཏེ། ཁྱེད་རང་སུ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་ཞུས་པ༌ན། 20ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱིས་སྦ་གསང་ཅི་ཡང་མེད་པར་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་མིན་ཞེས་གསལ་པོར་གསུངས་སོ།། 21ཡང་དེ་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། དེས་ན་ཁྱེད་རང་སུ་ཡིན༌ནམ། ཁྱེད་ནི་ཨེ་ལི་ཡཱ་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་དྲིས་པ༌ལ། ཁོང་གིས་ང་མིན་ཞེས་གསུངས་པ༌དང༌། ཡང་དེ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁྱེད་རང་ནི་ལུང་སྟོན་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཡིན་ནམ་ཞེས་དྲིས་པའི༌ཚེ། ཡང་ཁོང་གིས་མིན་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།། 22ཡང་དེ་རྣམས་ན༌རེ། འོ་ན་ཁྱེད་རང་སུ་ཡིན༌ནམ། ངེད་ཅག་གིས་ཀྱང་ངེད་རྣམས་མངགས་མཁན་ལ་ལན་ཞིག་འཁྱེར་དགོས༌པས། ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་རང་ཉིད་སུ་ཡིན་པ་གསུང་རོགས་ཞེས་ཞུས་པ༌ན། 23ཁོང་གིས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ལུང་སྟོན་པ་ཡེ་ཤ་ཡཱ་ཡི་མདོ་ལས་ཇི་སྐད༌དུ།

དབེན་སྟོང་ཡུལ་ནས་གྲགས་པའི་འབོད་སྒྲ༌ཡིས།།

གཙོ་བོའི་གཤེགས་ལམ་དྲང་པོར་བཟོ་བར༌གྱིས།།

ཞེས་གསུངས་པའི་མི་དེ་ཡིན་ཞེས་གསུངས༌སོ།།

24ཡང་དེ་དག་ནི་ཕ་རུ་ཤི་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་མངགས་པ་ཡིན༌ཏེ། 25ཁོ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཀྱང་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་ལ་ཁྱེད་རང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་མིན༌ལ། ཨེ་ལི་ཡཱའང༌མིན། ལུང་སྟོན་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཡང་མ་ཡིན༌པས། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་བྱེད་དམ་ཞེས་དྲིས་པ༌ལ། 26ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་ན༌རེ། བདག་གིས་ཆུས་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་བྱེད༌མོད། འོན་ཀྱང་སྐྱེས་བུ་ཞིག་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གི་ཁྲོད་དུ་བཞུགས་ནའང་ཁྱོད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཁོང་སུ་ཡིན་པ་མི་ཤེས། 27ཁོང་ནི་ང་ཡི་རྗེས་སུ་འབྱོན་པ་ཡིན༌ཏེ། བདག་གིས་ཁོང་གི་ལྷམ་མདུད་ཀྱང་དགྲོལ་བར་མི་འོས་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ།། 28དོན་འདི་རྣམས་ནི་ཡོར་དན་གཙང་པོ་ཕ་རོལ་གྱི་པེ་ཐན་ཡཱའི་ཡུལ༌ཏེ། ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱིས་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཛད་པའི་གནས་སུ་བྱུང་བ་ཡིན༌ནོ།།

John 1:19-28

19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 3:25-31

25དུས༌དེར། ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་སློབ་མ་རྣམས་དང་ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ་ཞིག་གཙང་སྦྲའི་ལུགས་སྲོལ་ཐད་ལ་རྩོད་པ་བྱུང༌བས། 26ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་དྲུང་དུ་ཡོང་སྟེ་ན༌རེ། རཱབ་པེ་ལགས། དེ་སྔོན་ཡོར་དན་གཙང་པོའི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཁྱེད་དང་མཉམ་དུ་བཞུགས་ཤིང་། ཁྱེད་ཀྱིས་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་པ་དེས་ད་ལྟ་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཛད་ཀྱིན༌འདུག མི་ཀུན་ཀྱང་ཁོང་གི་དྲུང་དུ་འགྲོ་བཞིན་ཡོད་ཅེས་ཞུས་པ༌ལ། 27ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱིས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། གལ་ཏེ་ནམ་མཁའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་ནས་གནང་བ་མིན་ན་མི་ཞིག་ལ་ཅི་ཡང་འཐོབ་མི་སྲིད། 28ཡང་དེ་སྔོན་བདག་གིས་འདི་སྐད༌དུ། ང་ནི་སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་མིན༌ཏེ། སྐྱབས་མགོན་མཱ་ཤི་ཀའི་སྔོན་དུ་མངགས་པ་དེ་ཡིན་ཞེས་སྨྲས་མྱོང་བ༌ལྟར། ད་ལྟ་ཁྱོད་ཅག་གིས་ཀྱང་ང་རང་ལ་བདེན་དཔང་བྱས་ཆོག༌པ་ཡིན། 29བག་མ་ལེན་མཁན་ནི་མག་པ་ཡིན༌ཏེ། ཁོའི་གྲོགས་པོ་ལངས་ནས་བསྡད་ཅིང་མག་པའི་སྐད་ཐོས་པས་སེམས་ཤིན་ཏུ༌དགའ། གྲོགས་པོ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ་བདག་ཀྱང་དགའ་སྤྲོས་ཁེངས༌པ་ཡིན། 30དེ་བས་ཁོང་ཉིད་འཕེལ་ཞིང་ང་རང་འགྲིབ་པར་འགྱུར་དགོས་སོ།།

31ཡང་སྟེང་ནས་བྱོན་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཐམས་ཅད་ལས་བླ་ན༌མཐོ་བ་ཡིན། ས་གཞི་ལ་གཏོགས་པ་དེ་རྣམས་ས་ཐོག་ཏུ་གནས་ཤིང་ས་ཐོག་གི་གཏམ་ཁོ་ན་གླེང་ངོ༌།། འོན་ཀྱང་སྟེང་ནས་བྱོན་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཐམས་ཅད་ལས་བླ་ན༌མཐོ་བ་ཡིན།

John 3:25-31

25 Now a discussion arose between some of John’s disciples and a Jew over purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.” 27 John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ 29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.”

31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.

 

So they had the testimony of John the Baptist but were not convinced. What was it preventing them to recognize the authority of Jesus? The answer could well be related to what Jesus said in John5:36

 

 

ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 5:36 འོན་ཀྱང་བདག་ལ་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཁན་ཡོ་ཧ་ནན་གྱི་བདེན་དཔང་ལས་ཀྱང་ཆེ་བའི་བདེན་དཔང་ཞིག་ཡོད༌དེ། ཡབ་ཀྱིས་བདག་ལ་བསྒྲུབ་པར་བཅོལ་བའི་དོན་རྣམས་ནི་བདག་གིས་སྒྲུབ་བཞིན་པའི་ལས་ཡིན༌ལ། ལས་འདི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བདག་ནི་ཡབ་ཀྱིས་མངགས་པ་ཡིན་པར་བདེན་དཔང་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་ནོ།།

John 5:36 But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.

 

Jesus spoke of the works the Father sent Him to do and accomplish, what was it?

 

Redemption for Man!

 

Redemption from sin and death, the will of God is to save us from sin and death!

The whole purpose of learning to trust and obey God’s teachings is our redemption from sin and death, and to pursue the promise of eternal life through the Messiah chosen of God, Jesus.

So apparently the contentions some of the Jewish folks had with Jesus were about if they could trust and obey what Jesus was preaching and teaching!

 

ཨིབ་རི་པ། 11:6

6སྤྱིར་མི་ལ་དད་པ་མེད་ན་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཐུགས་དགྱེས་མི་སྲིད༌དོ།། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་དྲུང་དུ་ཡོང་བའི་མི་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ངེས་པར་དཀོན་མཆོག་བཞུགས་པར་ཡིད་ཆེས་བྱ་དགོས་ཤིང་། ཁོང་གིས་རང་ཉིད་འཚོལ་བའི་མི་རྣམས་ལ་བྱ་དགའ་གནང་ངེས་པ་ལའང་ཡིད་རྟོན་བྱ་དགོས༌སོ།།

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

 

To exercise our faith in Christ, to seek redemption, we need to repent of our sins before God and live in newness of life as what Jesus had taught us. Means to say, can we trust and obey what Jesus had been teaching and preaching about?

What John the Baptist and Jesus teaches about true repentance clashes with what majority of the local Jewish folks had been taught by their elders about their Jewish way of life Halakha (Jewish religious laws and practices).

When we approach Jesus we know we are standing at a cross-road of our life.

Which way we want to go?

How do we proceed from here?
