What we can learn from the letters of Peter about practice of faith in Christ in times of uncertainty.

དེའི་ཕྱིར་སོ་སོའི་སེམས་གྲ་སྒྲིག་བྱེད་དེ་རང་ཚོད་ཟིན་ནས་ཡེ་ཤུ་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་མངོན་པར་འགྱུར་བའི་དུས་སུ་ཁྱེད་ཚོར་གནང་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་པའི་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ལ་རེ་བ་མཐའ་གཅིག་ཏུ་བྱེད་ཅིག

1 Peter 1:13

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

What Peter speaks about here in v13 is a conclusive point of what was mentioned earlier which can be summarized in few points

1. We are born again to new life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
2. We receive an inheritance in the kingdom of God with the future hope eternal life and fellowship with God through Jesus the Christ
3. Although these promises of God is sure and steadfast we must persevere and keep faith as there is the future ultimate redemption we look forward to where we will be with God for all eternity

Therefore in view of our hope in Christ and our future ultimate redemption Peter admonishes us how we should continue our lives here on Earth while waiting for our future promises.

Peter’s message to “prepare our minds” and to be “sober-minded” is in line with godly teachings from Paul and Isaiah

རོ་མཱ་པ། 12:1-2

1 དེའི་ཕྱིར་སྤུན་ཟླ་རྣམས། དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཁྱེད་ཚོར་ཐུགས་རྗེ་གནང་བས་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་ལུས་ནི་གསོན་པོ་དང་དམ་པ། དཀོན་མཆོག་ཐུགས་མཉེས་པའི་མཆོད་པ་ལྟར་འབུལ་བར་སྐུལ། དེ་ནི་ཁྱེད་ཚོའི་བདེན་པའི་བསྙེན་བཀུར་ཡིན།

2 འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་བྱེད་ལུགས་ལ་མ་བལྟས་པར་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་དགོངས་པ་བཟང་པོ་དང༌། ཁོང་ཐུགས་མཉེས་པ་དང༌། ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པ་གང་ཡིན་ཤེས་པའི་ཕྱིར་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་སེམས་གསར་དུ་སྒྱུར་བའི་ཐོག་ནས་མི་གསར་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

Romans 12:1-2

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

6ཁོང་གི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་བསྒྱུར་ནས་ཁོང་ལ་སྨོན་ལམ་འདེབས།

ད་ལྟ་ཁོང་ནི་ཐག་ཉེར་ཡོད་པ་ཡིན།

7སྤྱོད་ངན་རང་གི་བྱེད་ལུགས་དོར་བཅུག་ནས། དེ་ཚོའི་བསམ་བློ་གཏོང་ཚུལ་བསྒྱུར་རུ་བཅུག།

དེ་ཚོ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ང་ཚོའི་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་གི་ཕྱོགས།

ང་ཡི་ལམ་ནི་ཁྱོད་ཚོའི་ལམ་མི་འདྲ།

9ས་ལས་མཐོ་རིས་ཇི་ལྟར་མཐོ་བ་ལྟར། ཁྱོད་སྟེང་ང་ཡི་ལམ་དང་བསམ་བློ་མཐོ།

Isaiah 55:6-9

6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; 7 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Apparently as born again disciples of Jesus our initial confrontation with the society we are living in will be in the area of perspective choices and preferences.

While the world is casting off all restrains what kind of moral choices we make must be in line with God’s teaching and that will result in some form of conflicts between us born again disciples and those who want to follow the ways of the world.

People in this world seek popularity and material prosperity but how we wish to conduct our lifestyle need to reflect the teachings of Jesus the Christ.

As Paul taught to Timothy

1 Timothy 6:6-10

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

1 Peter 1:10-12

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

This salvation Peter refers to is the redemption work of Christ accomplished through His death and resurrection as according to the will and plan of God.

An important point Peter wanted to bring across to the disciples community scattered abroad is that this salvation plan of God through Christ had been revealed long ago through the prophets to prepare the people to receive the Messiah in the appropriated time and circumstances.

The birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus during the time of the Apostle Peter, and all the ministry works of Jesus witnessed by the disciples, testify to the prophetic message of God revealed in time past to prepare them to receive the Messiah.

Isaiah 53 contain a comprehensive message of the suffering Messiah

1  མི་མང་ཚོ་ཡི་ལན་དུ་སྨྲས་པ་ལ། ད་ལྟ་ང་ཚོས་ཞུས་པར་སུ་ཡིད་ཆེས།  གནས་ཚུལ་དེའི་ཐོག་ཏུ་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག།  ཁོང་གི་ཕྱག་ཡོད་པ་དེ་ནི་སུ་ཡིས་མཐོང།

2  ས་སྐམ་ནང་ལ་རྩ་བ་འཛུགས་པའི་རྩི་ཤིང་ལྟར་ཁོང་གི་ཞབས་ཕྱི་ཡར་སྐྱེས་པ།  གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་གི་ཐུགས་དགོངས་ཡིན།  ཁོ་ལ་ང་ཚོས་དོ་སྣང་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར།  གཟི་བརྗིད་ཡང་ན་མཛེས་ཚུལ་གང་ཡང་མེད།  ཁོ་ཡི་སྐོར་ལ་ཡིད་འཕྲོག་བྱ་རྒྱུ་གང་ཡང་མེད།  ཁོང་གི་གང་ཞིག་གིས་ང་ཚོར་བཀུགས་མི་ཐུབ།

3  ང་ཚོས་ཁོང་ལ་སྨད་ཅིང་སྤངས་བར་བྱ།  ཁོ་ཡི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ན་ཚར་བཟོད་སྲན་བྱས། སུས་ཀྱང་ཁོ་ལ་བལྟ་བར་མི་བྱེད་དོ།  ཁོ་ལ་ང་ཚོས་རིང་ཐང་བརྩི་མེད་བྱས།

4  འོན་ཀྱང་ང་ཚོས་མྱོང་དགོས་སྡུག་བསྔལ་དང་།  ང་ཚོས་ན་ཚ་འཁྱེར་དགོས་ཁག་ཅས་དང་།  ཁོང་གིས་བཟོད་སྲན་བྱས་པར་འགྱུར་བ་ཡིན།  ཁོང་གིས་མྱོང་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཚང་མ།  དཀོན་མཆོག་ཁོང་གིས་གཏོང་བའི་ཉེས་ཆད་ཡིན་ཞེས་ང་ཚོས་བསམ་བྱུང།

5  ང་ཚོས་སྡིག་པའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ཁོང་ལ་རྨས།  ང་ཚོས་ལས་ངན་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་ཁོང་ལ་བརྡུང་། ཁོང་གི་མྱོང་བའི་ཉེས་ཆད་རྐྱེན་ང་ཚོར་སྐྱིད་པོ་དང་ཞི་བདེ་ཐོབ།  ཁོང་གི་རྨས་ང་ཚོ་དྲག་ཡོད།

6  ང་ཚོ་ཚང་མ་ལུག་ལྟར་རླག་ཡོད་དོ། ང་ཚོ་རང་རང་སོ་སོའི་ལམ་དུ་འགྲོ།  འོན་ཀྱང་ང་ཚོར་ཕོག་དགོས་ཉེས་ཆད་དེ།  གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་གིས་ཁོང་རང་གི་ཐོག་ཕོག་པར་མཛད།

7  ཁོང་ལ་མནར་སྤྱོད་རྩུབ་པོ་བྱས་ན་ཡང་།  ཉམས་ཆུང་ངང་ནས་བཟོད་སྲན་གནང་བ་དང་།  ཁོང་གི་་ཚིག་གཅིག་ཙམ་ཡང་སྨྲས་མེད་དོ།  གསོད་གྲབ་ཡོད་པའི་ལུག་གུ་ལྟ་བུ་དང་། བལ་ནི་འབྲེག་གྲབ་ཡོད་པའི་ལུག་ལྟར།  ཁོང་གི་ཚི་གཅིག་རྩ་ནས་སྨྲས་མེད་དོ།

8  ཁོང་ནི་བཟུང་སྟེ་ཁྲིམས་གཅོད་བྱེས་ནས་བསད་པར་འཁྲིད།  ཁོང་གི་སྐྱལ་བའི་སྐོར་སུས་ཀྱང་དོ་སྣང་བྱེད་མེད་དོ།  ང་ཚོའི་མི་མང་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སྡིག་པའི་ཆེད།  ཁོང་ལ་འཆི་བའི་ཉེས་ཆད་བཏང་ཡོད་དོ།

9  ཁོང་གིས་ཁྲིམས་འགལ་གྱི་ལས་ནམ་ཡང་མ་བྱས་ཀྱང་།  ཡང་ན་རྫུན་ཚིག་གཅིག་ཀྱང་བཤད་མེད་དོ། ཁོང་ནི་དུར་དུ་མི་ངན་མཉམ་དུ་བཞག།  ཁོང་ནི་ཕྱུག་པོའི་རོ་དང་མཉམ་དུ་སྦས།

11  ཁོང་གི་མི་ཚེ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མྱང་བའི་རྗེས།  ཡང་སྐྱར་ཁོང་ལ་དགའ་བ་ཐོབ་པར་འགྱུར།  ཁོང་གི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་དོན་མེད་མྱོང་མེད་པ་ཤེས།  ང་ཡི་དགའ་བའི་མོས་གུས་ཅན་གྱི་ཞབས་ཕྱི་དེ།  མང་པོའི་ཆེད་དུ་ཁོང་གིས་ཉེས་ཆད་མྱོང་།  ཁོང་གི་ཆེད་དུ་ང་ཡི་དེ་ཚོར་བཟོད།

12  དེར་བརྟེན་རླབས་ཆེན་དང་ནི་སྟོབས་ཆེན་ཁྲོད།  ང་ཡིས་ཁོང་ལ་ཆེ་མཐོང་གོ་གནས་སྤྲད།  ཁོང་གི་ཐུགས་འདོད་བཞིན་དུ་རང་གི་མི་ཚེ་ཕུལ།  མི་ངན་ཚོ་དང་མཉམ་དུ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མྱོང་།  ཁོང་ནི་སྡིག་ཅན་མང་པོའི་ས་གནས་བཟུང།  དེ་ཚོར་བཟོད་གསོལ་ཡོང་བའི་གསོལ་འདེབས་ཞུས༎

Isaiah 53

1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?

9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53 was the same passage that led to the born again encounter of the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8 after the Pentecost event

བལ་འབྲེག་པ་ཡི་གམ་གྱི་ལུ་གུ༌བཞིན།།

སྐད་སྒྲ་མེད་པར་ཁོང་གིས་ཅང་མི༌སྨྲ།།

33གཞན་གྱིས་ཁོང་ལ་འཕྱ་ཞིང་དམོད་པ༌དང༌།།

བདེན་པའི་ཁྲིམས་ཐག་གཏན་ནས་མེད་པར༌བཟོས།།

ཁོང་གི་ཚེ་སྲོག་ས་ལས་བཅད་པའི༌ཕྱིར།།

ཁོང་གི་གདུང་རྒྱུད་སུ་ཡིས་འཆད་ནུས༌སམ།།

ཞེས་གསུངས་ཡོད་པ༌དེའོ།། 34དེ་ནས་ཉུག་རུམ་པ་ན༌རེ། ལུང་སྟོན་པས་ལུང་བསྟན་འདི་ནི་རང་གཞན་སུ་ལ་གསུངས་པ་བདག་ལ་གསུང་བར་མཛོད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 35ཕི་ལིབ་ཀྱིས་མདོ་དེ་ནས་མགོ་བཟུང་སྟེ་སྐྱབས་མགོན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་དོན་རྣམས་ཉུག་རུམ་པར་གསུངས་སོ།། 36དེ་ནས་ཁོ་གཉིས་མདུན་དུ་སྐྱོད་བཞིན་ཆུ་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཆ་ཞིག་ཏུ་སླེབས་པ༌ན། ཉུག་རུམ་པ་ན༌རེ། ལྟོས༌དང༌། འདི་རུ་ཆུ་ཡོད༌དེ། ང་རང་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་ལ་ཞུགས་ན་མི་འོས་པ་ཅི་ཡོད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌ལ། 37ཕི་ལིབ་ན༌རེ། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་བློ་སེམས་རྩེ་གཅིག་གིས་དད་པ་བྱས་ན་ཆོག་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་བཤད་ཅིང༌། ཁོས་ཀྱང་ཡེ་ཤུ་མཱ་ཤི་ཀ་ནི་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་སྲས་ཡིན་པར་ངས་དད་པ་བྱེད་ཅེས་སྨྲས་པ༌དང༌། 38ཤིང་རྟ་བགྲོད་མཚམས་འཇོག་པར་བཀའ་བསྒོས༌ཏེ། ཁོ་གཉིས་ཆུ་རུ་ཞུགས་ཤིང་ཕི་ལིབ་ཀྱིས་ཁོ་ལ་ཁྲུས་གསོལ་མཛད་དོ།། 39དེ་ནས་ཁོ་གཉིས་ཆུ་ལས་ཕྱིར་འབུད་པའི་དུས༌སུ། གཙོ་བོའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གློ་བུར་དུ་ཕི་ལིབ་གནས་གཞན་དུ་དྲངས༌ཤིང༌། ཉུག་རུམ་པས་ཕི་ལིབ་མ་མཐོང་ཡང་དགའ་སྤྲོའི་ངང་ལམ་ལ་ཆས་སོ།། 40ཕྱིས༌སུ། ཨ་ཟོད་ཅེས་པའི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་ལ་ཕི་ལིབ་མངོན་སུམ་དུ་སླེབས་ཤིང་། ཁོ་རང་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་ཀུན་ཏུ་རྒྱུ་ཞིང་ཀེ་སར་ཡཱ་རུ་སླེབས་པའི་བར་དུ་འཕྲིན་བཟང་བསྒྲགས༌སོ།།

Acts 8:26-40

26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:

“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.

33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.”

34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.

Jesus is God’s chosen Messiah.
