Footnote to Q 10: The Path of Salvation
Believers live in this material world with its pleasant experiences and its difficulties. But scripture (1 Peter 2:11) reminds us that life is like a journey on which we look forward to our real home in heaven. Here we are only temporary residents (གནས་གཡར་པ།); and to non-believers we may seem to be as aliens (ངོ་མི་ཤེས་པ།) because they are not able to understand that we are citizens of another world – that is of heaven.
Our Path to Heaven is Narrow Like a Mountain Pass
Yeshu said, “སྒོ་དོག་མོ་བརྒྱུད་ནས་འཇུག གང་ཡིན་ཞེ་ན། འཇིག་པར་འཁྲིད་པའི་སྒོ་ནི་ཞེང་ཅན་དང་ལམ་ཡངས་པོ་ཡོད་པས་མི་མང་པོ་དེར་འགྲོ gap དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པའི་ཚེ་ལ་འཁྲིད་པའི་སྒོ་ནི་ཞེང་ག་ཆུང་ཞིང་ལམ་ཡང་དོག་མོ་ཡོད་པས་ཉུང་ངུ་ཅམ་ལ་ལམ་དེ་རྙེད།” མད་ཐཱ། 7:13, 14
It is Like a Way through Barren Steppe Land
The prophet foresees people made clean and able to find their way, even if they are simple.
དེ་རུ་རྒྱ་ལམ་ཞིག་བྱུང་བར་འགྱུར། དེའི་མིང་ལ་དམ་པའི་ལམ་ཞེས་གྲགས། སྡིག་ཅན་སུ་ཞིག་ལམ་དེའི་སྟེང་ནམ་ཡང་མི་འགྲོད་དོ། དེ་རྒྱུ་འགྲོ་མཁན་ལ་ནི་གླེན་པ་སུ་ཞིག་གིས་ལམ་ནོར་འཁྲིད་མི་ཐུབ། ཡེ་ཤ་ཡཱ། 35:8
How to Find the Way of a Clean Life?
Even those full of youthful desires can find guidance for following the Way.
ན་གཞོན་ཚོས་རང་གི་མི་ཚེ་ཇི་ལྟར་གཙང་མ་བཞག་ཐུབ་བམ།
ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་བཀའ་ཁྲིམས་རྣམས་སྲུང་ནས་ཡིན། གསུང་མགུར། 119:9
In God’s Word is Found His Ten-fold Command
It is found in Exodus Chapter 20 verses 1-17.
Yeshu summarised the ten commands saying, “ཆོས་ཁྲིམས་ནང་ལ་རང་གིས་གཙོ་བོ་དཀོན་མཆོག་ལ་བློ་གཅིག་སེམས་གཅིག་དང་ནུས་པ་ཅི་ཡོད་ཀྱིས་བརྩེ་བར་ཟུངས་ཤིག ཁྱེད་རང་གིས་ཁྱིམ་མཚེས་ལ་རང་དང་འདྲ་བར་བརྩེ་བར་ཟུངས་ཤིག་ཅེས་འཁོད་འདུག། ལུ་ཀཱ། 10:27
A Picture of the Path of Salvation in the Old Testament
- Escape from slavery with the offering of a lamb – see Exodus 12:1-35, 51
- Pursuers behind, and the way ahead blocked by the sea – see Exodus 14:1-30
- The obstacle of thirst in a dry desert – see Exodus 17:1-6
- Lack of food in the steppe – see Exodus 16:1-36
- The many people who murmured for whom the obstacles were too great – see Numbers Chapter 14.
As for the Few who Finish the Path, Who are They?
They believe; they don’t just walk, they are runners, as it were! When Yeshu died for us he prepared the Way to heaven, and went on ahead of us. We must follow with our eyes fixed on Him.
“་་་བཟོད་པའི་སྒོ་ནས་ང་ཚོའི་མདུན་ལ་ཡོད་པའི་རྒྱུག་ལམ་སྟེང་རྒྱུགས་དགོས། ངེད་རྣམས་ཀྱི་དད་པའི་འགོད་པ་པོ་དང་ཡོངས་སུ་རྫོགས་པར་མཛད་མཁན་ཡེ་ཤུའི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ནན་གྱིས་ལྟ་དགོས། ཁོང་གི་མདུན་དུ་བཞག་པའི་དགའ་སྤྲོའི་དོན་ལ་དེའི་འཕྱ་དམོད་རྩིས་མེད་དུ་བཏང་སྟེ་རྒྱང་ཤིང་གི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བཟོད་ནས་དཀོན་མཆོག་གི་བཞུགས་ཁྲིའི་གཡས་སུ་བཞུགས། ཡ་ཧུ་དཱ་པ། 12:1b, 2
The Path is Yeshu Himself
Here is a mystery kept secret for ages. The prophets searched for understanding, and they found the truth in part. Only in our Lord Yeshu Ma Shi Ga Christ was the full truth revealed.
It was revealed when disciple Thomas asked to know the Way: ཐོ་མས་ཁོང་ལ་”གཙོ་བོ་ལགས། ཁྱེད་རང་གང་དུ་ཕེབས་པ་ང་ཚོས་མི་ཤེས་ཏེ་ལམ་དེ་ཇི་ལྟར་ཤེས་”ཞེས་ཞུས། ལན་དུ་ཡེ་ཤུས་”ང་ནི་ལམ་ང་། བདེན་པ་ཉིད། དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པའི་ཚེའང་ཡིན། ང་མ་བརྒྱུད་པར་སུ་ཡང་ཡབ་ཀྱི་དྲུང་དུ་འགྲོ་བའི་ལམ་མེད་དོ།” ཡོ་ཧ་ནན། 14:5, 6
